Bridging Program in Australia

World Registration

Published

Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.

My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much. :clown:

(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)

Every bridging course now needs eligibility letter from nationalnurses board to assess your nurses education and you also need IELTS 7 if not educated in an English first language speaking country.

Assessment is a few months.

You can try to contact The Bridge. I believe they have the lowest cost in the market and all my friends were already sent by them either to the United Kingdom or to Australia. :crying2:

Hi there, this is also my sentiment these days... on how i could work there without an experience at all... is the bridging program like a refreshment course? how much would it cost me?

I had a friend who had her consultation at The Bridge. They do have the lowest offer but the course that they are offering is not exactly a course that will lead to a registration in the future. They said you have to take Cert III in Aged care first which will not make you work as a registered nurse in a hospital. After this course you will be like a nursing aide for aged people. If your goal is to be a reg nurse there then you will have to take another course. Thus, making this option more expensive.

That's just what my friend told me. :D

...and having certificate 3 in aged care does not give you rights to get sponsorship for a visa to work as a personal care assistant....these jobs are not on the list of needed workers! Rn or RM's only! unless you have permanent residency! You cannot work in Australia if your occupation is not on the list!

hi, i am new here.. I already have my eligibility letter from ahpra and already sent an application for bridging program in IHNA/VCHN. They replied and asked for IELTS and recommend to enroll in their online course which is Introduction of Bridging Course Program. My concern is: Is it a trend nowadays to apply for a preparatory course like I mentioned for a nurse to qualify to a Bridging Course Program?

hi everyone! i'm a newbie here, i hope someone could help me:confused: i'm from the Phil and got a subclass 457 visa. i'm clueless about the registration for nurses in Australia. i was informed that i need to register to AHPRA to be able to work as RN in Aus??? so what's the bridging program for? is it needed to be RN there as well? i was told also that i won't need to sit for IELTS anymore to be registered in APHRA, i just need to prove that i was educated in English here in Phil, is that true? i hope someone could give me steps on how to be RN in AU, that would be a big help. after AHPRA, who will require me for a bridging program? what are the requirements for bridging program? thanks in advance guys! God bless :)

there's a long and very informative thread that can help you understand the process just by reading it:

but to answer your concern, in order to work as a nurse in Australia, you need AHPRA registration. It's the Australian equivalent of PRC in the Philippines. Here's the link to their website:

https://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/

After submitting your application, they will decide if you are eligible for registration as a nurse, or if you have to do a bridging program (BP). Admission to BP schools depend on your AHPRA eligibility.

Regarding the English language requirements, it is almost always required to take your IELTS and score 7 on every section. Or you can take the OET. I read others tried explaining that their education was done in English, like in the Philippines. But I honestly don't know if they are successful on proving such. Better take IELTS (or OET) because eventually you'll need it for school and immigration.
