Bridging Program in Australia

World Registration

Published

Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.

My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much. :clown:

(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)

Hello Co-nurses I would like to work also in Australia. But unfortunately im just a new RN with just a year of paid hospital experience. What steps would you suggest that i should take, maybe the first one is taking IELTS. thanks in advance for the response.[/quote']

Thank you for advice, ^_^ i thought 1 year hospital exp will be suffice and additional years are not required when taking bridging programs i was mistaken. Are you currently working here in Philippines?

hi! anyone here for the march 2014 in UNISA?:) hoping to meet future classmates.:)

What are your chances of getting sponsored & getting a job with 1 year hospital experience? SLIM. The TYPICAL SCENARIO: Right after you gain your registration, you'll be off applying for hospitals to which most, if not all, would just reject your application as you do not have enough and specialized experience; AND the most hospitals/institutions are shying away from sponsoring working visa as:1. Fees have gone through the roof (costs 1035 which nearly doubled from last year), 2. Once you got sponsored, there is no guarantee for a VISA to get granted as there has been a new law enforced called Labour Market Testing, which roughly means that they would have to market the vacant position giving priority to local graduates/candidates rather than giving it to overseas applicants. This would also take time taking the VISA application 4-6 weeks before a decision is heard.

I've had friends from the university who ended up being students and taking short-courses just to stay in the country, having nowhere to go and only working to pay up their school fees. Friends who've been coming back and forth, applying to hospitals everywhere and yet still hadn't heard from the employers.

I'm not writing this to discourage anyone. I'm just stating the facts. Yes, it's been difficult but what piece of advice I could give you is:Gain some experience first and don't rush to coming here as you might end up owing a lot of debt and to make matters worse, NOT BEING ABLE TO PAY YOUR DEBTS due to the fact that you weren't able to secure a job offer after gaining your registration.

Think it through. Make sure you have a back- up plan. Not just Plan B. But Plan C as well. Please, don't get fooled by other substandard schools offering student visas luring you that you could work and stay here in Oz. YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER.

Hi. This is very good advice, PogzRN. In your opinion, How long hospital experience should a nurse have to be more competitive in the current Australian job market after the bridging program? Is having specialized nsg exp (e.g. ICU) better than med-surg ward exp? Thank you for your reply.
