American Nurse Seeking work in Australia Part 2

World Registration

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading the thread "American nurse seeking to work in Australia," posted a comment there, and I'm creating this thread as the other one's discussion has seemed to trail off.

So here is my situation: I'm an RN in the US with essentially 1 year of experience (9 months in psychiatric nursing, 4 months and growing in general MedSurg), recently engaged to an Australian who lives in the Sydney area, and I would like to move to Australia around mid-November. My BSN through an accelerated nursing program.

I would love some help and insight in mainly just two areas:

1) What's the best way to go about proceeding with AHPRA?

2) Would it be better for me to pursue a fiancée visa, an employment-sponsored visa, or a holiday and work visa?

I would greatly appreciate any experiences, insights, suggestions, and tips you have that you could share!

Thanks,

JosephDaniel

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Because mainly asking about registration as a IEN I have moved to Nurse Registration forum.

Follow instructions on AHPRA website on what to do as a IEN. Not sure if everything will be done in time for your move in November.

Regarding visa I would check out the Australian immigration website as fiancée may be the easiest to go through

Thanks for your help in this, silverdragon102! Feeling a bit like a fish out of the water and wasn't exactly sure which forum would be the best for my questions. Is there a way I can tag certain users into the thread?

What's an IEN? International experienced nurse?

IEN = International Educated Nurse

When registration is required in a country not your we ask that questions are posted in the Nurse Registration forum and questions asking about immigration either permanent or temp are placed in the Immigration forum

I'm happy to post my questions in two separate forums, especially as how no one has shared any of their personal experiences or insights yet!

I am still wondering though: is there a way I can tag certain users into this thread? etoile88, Bringonthenight, joeldew, lilly1980, Mwill378, K+MgSO4 and Yee213 from the first "American Nurse seeking to work in Australia" seemed to have some firsthand experience and knowledge and I'd like to hear some feedback from them.

Can't tag others, this isn't Facebook ;) K+MgSO4 is not American.

Thanks! That's why I was asking...wasn't sure.

If K+MgSO4 is Aussie or had lived in Aus, then that'd be amazing if he/she commented.
