I heard Yale University makes male students enrolled in the FNP program and Accelerated BSN take "sensitivity" and "femininity" classes to reduce overall manly tendencies that might offend some people. This is a spinoff of a recent mandate which the administration of Yale University decided to ban stage weapons during plays as these can contribute to real world violence; as recently evidenced by the whole virginia tech situation. After all someone going to see a play at Yale might see a fake sword and arrive at the idea to run around with a real one and hurt people...i applaud the administration of Yale for their fine efforts. I for one think that most men are much to masculine.

I just finished my first specialty year at YSN in the oncology NP program!! Woohoo! I love it. There are plenty of people who love to gripe about things but there are those people everywhere. PM me with any questions or anything.

Dont go to Yale trust me - they will try to indocrinate you with their political ideology - its like 50% learning what you need to know and 50% transnational liberalism, i.e. universal healthcare for all, america sucks, europe/canada is better etc...

I graduated from Yale's program. I was in a specialty that prepares you for primary care. I think the specialties can vary significantly. I had friends in the acute care tract who felt very satisfied with the education. Myself, well I was one of those disapointed by the program, however I wanted to work in a hospital setting and this program prepares you for primary care-I will give them that. I think it is what you make of it. To really understand why you are doing what you are doing it may be neccessary to work (read/study) beyond the requirements of the program. I felt a lot of the didactic was at a very cursory level and did not delve into management complexities.

I just graduated from the ANP program (woohoo!!) - while there were pluses and minuses, in general, I've been happy with my experience there. Feel free to PM me with more Qs!

Student's perception of the program seems to vary much with the specialty they are in, and if they are in the GEPN program or already an RN at entry. Seems the FNPs did less complaining then our group - we pretty much all hated it. They do have a new Asst. Dean who seems to be ready to kick some butt and try to make things better there.

AK556: Can I ask which 'your group' was? What did you hate about it? Any way you could be more specific? Were you a GEPN or RN at entry? I'm starting the ACNP program in the fall and am curious about past students' experiences...

Seems the ACNPs enjoyed their clinical experiences, but really I don't know. You could ask your specialty director to give you some names of current/past students maybe....or the asst. dean of student affairs; he is one of the most supportive people there.

I just graduated from Yale's program too and I can't find a job! I was warn that nurses don't respect us (NPs with no RN experience) and it's true! You need at least 1 yr experience working as an RN before you can apply for most NPs jobs. What's sadder is that RN have better hours and make almost as much as NP. sigh..
