Where are the NP's from the Carolinas???

Wondering if there were any NPs here in the Charlotte NC area? I am curious to know what the market/salary is like for this area? From reading the posts it seems that a lot of NP positions are based on location and before deciding if I will become an NP or not, I want to know what I am up against.

In general is the market over-saturated with NP's? If so will this trend continue?

Do you live in Charlotte now or are you planning to move there. Don't move until you get a job there. I was told by a recruiter there that Charlotte it so saturated and that when nurses come to Charlotte, they don't leave. This is a nice way of saying Charlotte only had 2 hospital sysyems and ther is no competition and we can treat you like we want and pay you what we want because where else will you go. (Can you tell I lived there a number of years).

Charlotte is a great city to have fun but not a great city for health professional due to it's lack of competition.

Doctors were so repected and nurses were not respected at all. Doctors preferred physican assistants to nurse practitoners (physician vs. nurse). They don't encourage nurses to advance their education.

It's difficult to get a read on the salary and opportunities in Charloote because the opportunitites are limited. Salary is not much better than a staff RN (about $65k).

Any other NPs in Charlotte want to respond.

Opprtunities for APRN and better in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area because they there is more competition as far as hospitals and the area is more pogressive. Ant where there is competition there is appreciation and more respect.

Thank you for your response! I currently live here in Charlotte. I actually grew up here. It's sounds like Charlotte needs some competition! I am a new nurse that's having trouble securing a job in the hospital, so I've been thinking about going back to school to get my Master's. From the research I've done, there doesn't seem to be very many NPs because I wanted to shadow a few. Are you a NP? Where do you work? Even without the "encouragement" of MD's I would still advance my education. I am currently working in home health, but by the time I apply, get accepted, and graduate from NP school that is 2+ years away. Guess it won't be any different then either. Do you think Charlotte is a city where a NP could perhaps start her own business? I am hoping some NPs from this area will respond to this thread. Thoughts? Thanks

I don't know, we were not a tight knit group, it's not something duke fosters. Come on out, pay is kicking. :D
