Still no job for me...

Well, it has been 5 weeks now since I quit my first NP position in hospital medicine, and I still do not have another job. On top of that, I am getting a divorce...so life is not the greatest at the moment. :( I had 2 interviews for a Diabetes NP position, but am still waiting to hear the verdict. I have looked everywhere (magazines, newspapers, job boards, internet), sent my resume everywhere, talked to every NP I can think of, etc...and so now I am getting very frustrated. I feel like I took the wrong position and now all the good NP jobs are taken. Wish me luck!

Good luck and don't give up. Hope you have good news by the time the new year comes around.

Specializes in ICU, CV-Thoracic Sx, Internal Medicine.

Sorry to hear about the run of bad luck. Keep your head up. Now's a good time to listen to your own signature line ("shoot for the moon.....").

Specializes in primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, NICU.

Don't give up! Think about what type position you really want and send a resume/cover letter there. I was interested in working with peds and even though I am an FNP I have a lot of work experience with the peds population. Anyway, I went through the phone book and found the listing for every pediatric clinic in the surrounding area. I then sent my resume and a cover letter expressing my interest and telling them why I thought I would be a good fit. I got one response where they had an unadvertised opening - a staff member was going to be retiring soon but they had not yet advertised the position. I got that job. I don't know where you live, but you might even want to try Craigslist. No kidding, I saw two openings in my area for FNP'S! Have you tried some of the placement agencies for NP's? Comphealth, advancedpracticejobs.com and NPjobs.com have listing and recruiter contacts. Maybe that would help?

I know a n.p. who went from a pcp to a rheumatologist, she HATED IT! She quit and found a job better than both of them. She actually works now for the dept oif corrections, said she lovers it and is making great money. So, hang in there.

Hi Chris

Sorry about your life upheavals, I was hoping you'd post to say you'd found another job... but it will happen, some day!

I don't know if you are interested in moving to Michigan but here are the Michigan Council of NP job postings: http://www.micnp.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=14

Specializes in ARNP, FNP-BC.

I am sorry to hear about your struggles with finding a new NP job and also going through a divorce at this time. Hang in there...I hope things get better soon :)

hey i feel ya!

my last day was Oct 17th, and although i have a job lined up doesn't start til Jan 5th, so 2.5 mo total off work before i start up again.

I need to use some time to study my ANCC exam notes so i don't forget everything i learned!!

Hey do something fun!!

Besides looking for a job, do something you've been wanting to do but never had time to!

I've been at the gym a lot, hanging out with friends, i may take a class to be able to teach CPR and I want to learn to teach spinning classes!

Are you open to moving? If you are open to moving you can get a job anywhere.

PM me if so, i have LOTS of leads from my own job search.

Even if you aren't open to moving forever, Comphealth has LOTS of temp. jobs. for example i KNOW they need someone dec 15-30 in alaska (i was going to do this before going to MA, but i'm training for my 6th marathon and the job is on an island 2.4 miles squared... so not much place to run)

Anyways, PM if you are interested, i can give you my recruiters info, it might be a way to work for a few months while you look for something permanent.

I know a few NP's here in Seattle and in Texas as well who cannot find jobs. The staff nurses here in Seattle often make more that the NP's. My sister in law is an NP with a neonatal group and I make more that she does working part time on a med surg floor as charge. Diane

I noticed that you are an Acute Care NP. Have you thought about applying for a ER position?
