Reading in advance before NP program?

Just wondered....I will start NP school next fall. Would it help me "get a leg up" to read ahead in books like advanced pharm and patho? I know these won't be the same books, but I think it would help me grasp the basics so that wehn I start, I won't be overwhelmed with all new material.

I would recommend you review the basic cell membrane discussion from undergrad patho. I have not taken pharm yet but patho is killing me this semester. I can pm you my syllabus and notes.

Hi. Just make sure you have the basics down. For instance, Anatomy and Physiology is a must. Pharm is okay, but I would say not to put to much into that because pharm is different in NP school and you may waste your time "getting ahead".

Study your APA manual like it is the Bible, it is far more integral to the MSN degree.

I didn't even crack the APA manual at ALL. Just get an APA writing program, install it on your hard drive and type all of your papers in that program. It sure does seem like the paper writing is a monumental portion of the program, but once you get past the theory and research classes, it takes a backseat to pharm and critical decision making.

doing Patho now and I wish WISH I had spent the summer rereading my A&P books. But I will make it. Especially the cell! I spend half the time looking up terms that I knew in undergrad. But I suspect after this semester it will be less painful. 6th ed. APA text is a bit challenging as well, make sure to also get student text.

Which program did you use?
