Private practice

Specialties NP

I am currently researching my options. I would just like some insight on the process of starting a private practice as an ARNP in a state that allows it. Also would like to know average income vs working under an MD. Thanks!

Specializes in medical surgical.

I started a practice in a non independent state. I have a collaborative MD that I pay to check 10% of my charts. I also do not take insurance.

Specializes in Adult Internal Medicine.

I am a partner in a private internal med practice. My salary is up a bit but so is my stress level at times.

If you are considering starting your own private practice, you probably want to be well-established in the community and have significant experience as a provider. How long have you been in NP practice?

Thank you for the responses, I am currently pursuing my ARNP degree. I am just looking into future options as I like to plan ahead or at least have ideas. If you do not mind, can you share what the average annual income is with a private practice. Including paying MD and staff. Thank you

Hi, gettingbsn2msm,

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but would you mind sharing the template of the collaborative agreement that you have with your collaborating MD---with the personal information redacted, of course. I have been trying for a long time to find an NP who has such an arrangement since I am still in the elementary stages of launching my own business.

I hired an attorney who said that she would be able to help me with this, but I am not really impressed with her services so far and it is now obvious that she had exaggerated her experience with working with NPs in this type of situation.

You can read a lot of free articles on Nurse Practitioners in Business - Business Education, Resources & Support for Entrepreneurial Clinicians. I also get emails from Barbara. I used to belong to her pay site so I could read the forums, but I am not ready to start a practice yet, so I just read the free articles for now. You'll get lots of good ideas and info on that site. (I have no affiliation with the site.)
