Please rate my chances?

  1. Hello All,

I am currently a student at a local community college in spfld ma obtaining my ADN in 2007. I have a BA in Biology. I have a strong desire, no passion, to become a NP. I am terrifed about not being accepted into a school. My concern is that my GPA from my Undergraduate studies is a 2.6. My current GPA in nursing school is a 2.8-3.0. Other health care experience includes being a pharmacy tech for about 5 years and I was a student intern this summer at a local hospital.

My concerns: My GPA, my ADN versus a BSN??

I am looking to apply to schools when I graduate from this nursing program or after 6-12 months of working. I understand there is a debate about whether to apply to NP without clinica experience.

I am looking at schools in the spfld ma area.

I don't really know how competitive it is to get into nursing schools. What are my chances. I really can't set myself up for another failure.

    Thanks

Hi and welcome. I question your committment when you state that you have a desire but no passion to be an NP. (Is this a typo or am I misunderstanding?)

That was a misunderstanding. I was saying it in the fact that even more than desire, I have a passion. I have desire but more than that passion. I used the word desire first then decided that I have more than desire, I have passion. I was trying to covey how much i want to be a NP. Does this make sense? Rereading the sentence I can see how it can be interpreted two different ways.

Yes, now that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. With the increase in entry-level MSN program as well as the ADN to MSN options, you should have several options. They are competitive programs but it can be done. GOod luck.

Sorry for the confusion. Thank you for the encouragement.

No problem. Another thing to consider is the marketplace in your part of the world. What type of APN will be marketable in 2-3 years or so (when you get done). For instance, in my area, we have clinical nurse specialists, NPs, CRNA's - and jobs are pretty tight. So...you also want to consider specialization - what is the predicted pattern of hiring?
