Thank you, DNPstudent. I want the ability to do either. I will certainly keep you in mind. Good luck to you! Have any prospects yet?

My CIP is on enteral nutrition for critically ill adults. I already have my first DNP clinicals set up for this semester. I will be going to three sites to do clinicals (St. John Main, Henry Ford Main, and Beaumont). It's all word of mouth, and mostly people are willing to help you out. The DNP clinicals are very different from the NP clinicals...it's kind of confusing to be honest...

Yea Juan. I went to U of D. How did you guess? LOL. Finally graduated and I am so freaking happy. Studying for my boards which are coming up at the end of this month. @ DNPstudent, that would have been cool to be classmates :). I am glad to know they have you complete the Doctorate portion first and then the NP stuff. I think that is really smart. When do you finish, 2013? Not bad at all to end up coming out with your DNP. How is the program? Do you like it over there? I gotta say I was so disappointed I couldn't graduate from Wayne. I really wanted to go there. I went to U of D part time for 3 years. That was plenty for me. I have a million kids and I worked up until the last semester. So glad its all behind me. My friend is trying to encourage me to get my DNP...yikes! I can't see myself going back to school any time soon. I just want to master being a NP first and get these lovely loans paid back.

U of Detroit is a good program. I have former co-workers in Detroit who went there but have no experience precepting their students since they only have FNP. Wayne's advantage is that it also has a medical school so you're more than likely to interview with a physician who either graduated or trained there especially if you're staying in the area. Good luck to both you, Tinabean and DNPStudent. I've been checking out the openings in the Detroit area and it seems like the hospitals are still hiring for NP's. You guys will be fine. I have many connections in Detroit BTW.

Thanks Juan. I already have a gig. But if you know of anything in the low income/family practice arena please dont hesitate to let me know. Or something with loan forgiveness :)

Hi DNPstudent!

I just graduated from a DNP/FNP program but I have a question? What are DNP clinicals? Just curious because all of my clinicals were go focused on the NP portion of the program.

The DNP clinicals are directly related to our CIPs. So for example, I am working with an ICU dietician for 200 hours this semester. Hours can also be in the realm of leadership, or health policy.

Hi DNPstudent I have a question regarding FNP clinical preceptors. I tried to PM you but your message box is full. Do you have any suggestions or leads you can share in the Detroit ? I start my prog 9/4 and students are required to find their own preceptors. Thanks! Tiffany

I am also applying to NP programs in the next few months. I would also be required to find my own preceptor. I work at a hospital in Detroit, but the school will not allow you do to your clinicals at your own hospital. Any suggestions on finding a preceptor? Any tips? I'm so worried that I will not be able to find one. I am going to do an Adult NP program, hopefully though Ball State, my second choice is Frontier and the FNP program.
