Hi all,

I would like some feedback as to what type of attire you wear to work...as a NP. I suppose it depends on the area you work?

Replies greatly appreciated! :)

Specializes in ACNP-BC, Adult Critical Care, Cardiology.

ICU - NP's wear hospital issue scrubs.

Specializes in Emergency, MCCU, Surgical/ENT, Hep Trans.

M-F; business w/trendy tie, occasionally a ivy bow, especially during football season...someone has to pull for those poor (oxy moron) schools. White, consult lab coat, "First Last NP"

S-S: scrubs, lab coat comes on for anyone on Medicare (white hair) or anyone I want to make a point to (STD, narcotics, teenagers, etc).

Unless your employer pays for your attire, or your under a bound contract, it's pretty open. I try to balance professionalism, comfort and style. Try on some different looks, take a gander in the mirror, what do you see?

In the dead of winter, even the oldest, worn college sweatshirt, matched with Ralph Lauren wool slacks, leather shoes and crisp, white oxford makes a boy shine! Folks smile...

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

Business casual for me...khakis, corduroys, or dress pants with an occasional skirt thrown in. Comfortable shoes are a must. Right now I'm addicted to my Skecher's Shape Ups, even thought they're kind of nerdy. I only wear a lab coat if I don't have pockets in my clothes or if they've put on the AC instead of the heat.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I work in dialysis unit so read cold and bloody. I wear dockers blouse, sweater, dockers, long , pinstriped lab coat with our practice logo on the left and our name on the right.

Specializes in ED, ICU, PACU, Education, Mgt..

Thanks to everyone for the replies! :)

I work PAT/SPU - our hospital has us wear scrubs with white lab coat over them.

what length white coat do you all wear?

Mine is the long doctor-length blue pin-striped one.

We wear the longer ones, also. They are provided by the hospital.

Family practice office = business casual with lab coat.
