by abiagirlnp May 6, '12Hello Everyone,
I am a new graduate nurse practitioner in the Atlanta area. Graduated Dec 2011, passed both ANCC and AANP 1st wek of April 2012, and just recieved my Georgia NP license. Problem is that eveyone I have applied with wants me to have had an NP experience. Where do I get this much-needed experience if no one is willing to give me a chance? Some of the jobs that are willing to accepts new grads are like 3-5 hours away. I am getting dejected, frustrated, and demoralized for spending all the money for my program and now facing this problem. My loan payment starts in June and I just don't know what to do. I am a very hardworking, smart, and independent person that always puts in my best in whatever job I do. Please, does anyone know of any practice/s that need an NP? I will be unable to relocate at this time due to family needs, but would not mind travelling up to 25 to 35 miles from Cobb county. Someone help me please!!!!Last edit by abiagirlnp on May 6, '12 : Reason: misspellings

- May 6, '12 by abiagirlnpI am currently working with 2 recruiters who have told me that it will be hard finding a job for me since I am an "inexperienced" NP. I have 10 years of nursing experience under my belt (mostly acute care telemetry), and have worked both home hospice and home health. Thanks for your response.
- May 6, '12 by zenmanThis seems to be a common theme. Are students not checking out the job market in their local area before going to school? Plan, plan, plan.wooh likes this.
- May 6, '12 by BMW330Hello,
I was in same position as you when I started looking in January and within the last 2 months I have had job offers. It seems that people disregard your prior nursing experience. As a novice NP graduate you should never be expected to 'hit the ground running' especially if you want to practice safely and competently. I found that most of the recruiters that I had contact with were not helpful or supportive. You will find a physician and or clinic that will be happy to mentor you for a period of time and especially with your years of experience you will learn quickly. You just started your search so try not to get discouraged; something with work out.
Have you thought about putting your resume on Linkedin? - May 6, '12 by BMW330Hello,
It is not always about the job market but rather being a novice NP.
Being supportive towards new NP graduates would be helpful.Last edit by BMW330 on May 6, '12 - May 6, '12 by BMW330Hello,

Planning ahead before you embark on spending 40 K or more is a big deal, especially if you don't want to move. You're correct about supportive and positive comments but that is not always reality and reality sucks sometimes. I had lot's of job offers as a new grad because I was willing to move almost anywhere. No experience did not matter that much to the jobs I talked to. Some were just glad to get anybody.Hello,
