Hi, I've just been accepted into a Adult Nurse Practitioner Program. I plan to start in the fall on a part time basis. Any words of advice? How did you survive the program? What am I getting myself into? I'm excited and nervous at the same time.....How different was it from being an undergraduate?

Thanks lady jezebel. :) Now does anyone have any idea how one survives an NP program?

i graduated from a fnp program. all i can say is read, read, and read.:uhoh21:

Congrats...

When I started my FNP progam I got a PDA and loaded it with ICD9 codes, differential diagnosis, and lab value programs.

It helped with the reams of paperwork that was required.

Then I took a long look at the program, travel nursing, and potential for income and the amount of loans if I went to post-grad schooling vs. traveling and getting a decent job.

I did not finish my Master's, make as much, if not more than an mid-level and don't have to deal with the hours, call or anything else they may do.

And I am very happy.

Best of luck in your schooling.

Congrats on your acceptance. I started my FNP program this past week on a part time basis as well. TONS of reading, with 4 papers and one teaching project due this semester. Make sure that you have a quiet place to read and work on papers/assignments. I still work full time, and do most of my reading at night after everyone is asleep. I also bought a PDA but as far as programs Im still looking. I have a program on it now that is Pepid RN. It has some good info on it, but I can see me having to upgrade when I get further into the program.

Good luck in your program!

Thanks to everyone who replied. Looks like I'd better get ready for lots of reading and I'd better invest in a PDA. Thanks again.
