How to get DOT certificate

I need this as my employer wants me to do some physicals. I am a little confused. Is it the same as CME? How do I register for the exam. The info on the website is very scattered and not well organized. What is the test agency, and test fee, certification ,etc. I did figure out that AANP membership can give me discount on a training for CME they provide. I am not sure if that is exactly the same thing ? Can someone shine some light on me? Thanks!

Hi, You will need to take the class and become certified to do the DOT physicals, then pass the exam to be on the registry.

It is not the same as CME. You did complete your FNP program ( I see you were in school 2 years ago).

Thank you, I will look into that website !

Which website were you referring to?

My friend flew to Florida to take the class but I think there are online modules/class you can take. She says the patients are sent to optometry or ophthalmology for eye exam. But that's what the doc she works for prefers. If you have any other questions, I can ask her for her recommendations. Keep us posted.

Is there a time requirement? If you could stack in several drivers with 10 minutes each then it could be worthwhile.

Where I work, the time allotted for the visit is 1 hr. It usually doesn't take me that long since most pts are healthy. With paperwork included, it takes me about 20-30 minutes to do a DOT physical. If the pt has issues going on, it an take longer to get it done and it can take up to an hr.

I would explore getting creative and market to trucking companies and perhaps even come on job site so you have a "captive audience". Maybe see if the trucking company would be willing to foot the bill as a fringe benefit for their drivers. And remember that doing cash business is fun!

Yes.

It would have to be quick, cash only, and onsite where you'll incur no overhead of your own. I'd do the exam at Starbucks if the driver was find with it.
