How Long to Get License

Specialties NP

I passed my FNP certification exam in November and applied for my KY license. I have a job waiting. I was just wondering how long it takes to get the license so I can give my notice at my current job?

Licensing and prescriptive authority vary by state.

Plan on 3-5 days to get your certification letter. Then 1-2wks or more for licensing. Then another 1-2wks for prescriptive authority.

Insurance credentials takes months.

There is tremendous variability. Safe bet is 2wks earliest or more than a month worst-case.

I had a similar question.

@BostonFNP- can I work while waiting for insurance credentials? Will my employer bill under his/her name during the wait? Or I have to wait for insurance credentials to come in first? How does it work?

I know I sound like I have ADHD... I am just sooo excited!!!

Depends on the facility and the state. If you are billing incident-to then you (likely) won't have to wait.
