How do you conduct periodic meetings with your collaborating physician?

I'm a new grad still learning the ropes, working with physicians and PAs. My PA peers apparently don't have the same requirement for monthly face to face meetings which NPs in Texas have. I work onsite with my physician, and he reviews and signs 100% of my charts, but we're still working out the kinks of properly demonstrating compliance with the mandatory meetings. Just curious how other NPs handle this?

The requirements are probably different state-to-state (unlike for physicians whose rule are pretty standard across the USA) and your BON probably has a format they suggest you follow. I live in North Carolina and the BON has a form you can download to use for documentation. Our requirement is only every 6 months and the doc does not cosign my charts.

As for our actual meetings...varies. Usually I document a situation where I've gone to the physician to ask about a case (something new to me or a complicated patient she saw in the hospital who I am now seeing in the office) and then ask her to sign it after I've typed it up. This happens with enough frequency that we have never planned a specific meeting time/topic.

I write up a case and give it to my supervising MD for review. We then go over the case and both sign it, each retaining a copy for our records. I also use a likert scale review form that we complete that discusses various aspects of clinical and professional performance with a section that details any areas for improvement and subsequent timeframe for follow up. My state requirement is essentially that a QI process has to take place but the BON is quite vague on the specifics. My process is likely overkill but I am sure it would meet any scrutiny by auditors.

This is a great idea. I have a multitude of texts back and forth with my physician regarding various specific clinical issues. I wonder if I could follow a similar process and have him sign off on those. We have so much face to face interaction daily with basically a constant state of collaboration and guidance, yet so little time to schedule formal "meetings".

I don't know of any formal meetings required in my state. I essentially run the office, and the doc travels to multiple offices signing off on all of the np's charts as well as seeing patients we are not legally allowed to see as np's in my state.
