Columbia ETP 2009

by jnd1213

So i got into Columbia's ETP 2009 Program. I keep hearing so many negative things about Columbia nursing school (big size, disorganized, etc)...can anyone shed some light on this for me? Current/past students would be a plus! Thanks!

I feel like for an Ivy League school Columbia has gotten mediocre reviews...have you been accepted anywhere else?

yeah ive heard that too. though i really feel for NP schools it doesnt truly matter all that much where u end up going...so I'm just trying to find the right fit. COlumbia is appealing bc of NYC...but id imagine the quality of life in NYC with no income isnt fun...(sadly, i dont have parents to help out!) Yale is my number one...even though living in New Haven would be a down-grade from living in Boston.

I heard that about Columbia too, and I couldn't justify paying 80,000 for the first year ..... so I am going to Marquette. I also got into Vanderbilt, but decided I didn't like that the second year was all distance learning and you had to do the work to find preceptors and clinicals. I have heard good things about Marquette, and it is definitely more affordable (and Milwaukee is much cheaper to live in). Good luck on your decisions

Congrats on Marquette! I agree that the tuition is way to much and I'm going to BC instead (half as much as Columbia). I can't imagine how long it would take to pay off a loan like that and I think it would be irresponsible to take on that amount of debt given the current economy.

Looks like i too am turning down Columbia bc of money and bc of the fact that going to "ranked" school does not do much for ones career in nursing (as opposed to business or law school). I got a lot of money from Northeastern in Boston so it looks like I am thats my place! I almost went with Yale, but even they leave you with 100k of debt...and after doing some cost-benefit analysis...it seems I'd be done to turn down money. Pluse I really like the fact that I can work part-time during the masters portion of NEU and the 9 month co-op will be nice as well! Good luck to both of you!

Congratulations!! I think you're definitely making the right choice...You gotta go where the money is, and Boston is the best (REDSOX HELL YA)! The Co-op should give you some great experience, and you got into Yale so you can say you turned them DOWN! Good luck in the future!

ps- I haven't heard from NEU yet, isn't that weird?? I applied right before the deadline but still think its wack I haven't heard anything esp since I got into BC, CUSON, and MGH.

I also haven't heard from NEU yet and I also applied right at the deadline, not realizing they assessed applications on a rolling basis. More oddly, I haven't heard anything from BC either, which I think must be more due to an administrative or mail error.
Please let me know when you hear from NEU, I think we'd be in the same batch~
