College based health center FNP pay

Just got offer of $26-28/ hr for part time FNP position. The job sounds great. Close to home, great hours during school years, less hours over breaks, no weekends, holidays or on call. Lovely clinic and staff. I have young kids so the perks are great for me, but I can easily match this pay with an RN job. Anyone know any FNPs working in college based health centers and how this pay might compare? I am a new grad. I anticipated a less than great job offer due to no NP experience and college health centers are known to pay less, but this is MUCH lower than anticipated. They want me to come in to meet with other staff and administrators, but I don't know if I am wasting everyone's time at this point.

The university where I got my BSN was hiring FNPs for their health clinic and the salary was only about $65K. Very low, IMO when you can make that as a RN. I decided against applying based solely on the salary. I have student loans and need to earn enough to survive.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Thanks for info. I turned it down. Would have been a very nice place to work. I just need more $$$ and they were very low, even for college health.

That sounds ridiculously low. I made more than that as an RN. I guess it depends on where you live.

No way Jose.

When NPs accept those kind of low salaries, it drives down the prestige and view of the profession. We shouldn't ever even be hourly - hourly work is more for laborers. Professionals are almost always salaried. Ever heard of an MD hourly position?

I know quite a few MD that are hourly. But I whole heartily agree with accepting low pay dragging wages down for the rest of us. Keep this phrase in mind. "If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys."
