Adult NP to Family NP

I live in Michigan and I just graduated in July 2009. I am certified as both Adult and Gero NP. Job market for adult NP is awful and I am jobless for 3 months.I need to support my family and job market for FNP is always great.
I want to go back to school for FNP. Do you know how many more classes I need to take and are you aware of any short-term program (online) for Adult NP to Family NP? any experiences?
In my school they require one and half year more classes and clinical, which is not fair. Please help

I also live in Michigan. I am sorry to hear about your difficulties with securing a job. What part of Michigan are you in? Reason I ask is that there are places in SE Michigan that are looking for NPs and wouldn't mind hiring an Adult NP.

There are a lot of FNP programs in Michigan but I think Michigan State's might be the only one offered online.

Thank you for response. I live in Livonia.I have applied for many positions. Most of them are looking for ICU or ER experiences, which I don't have. I have a Med/Surg background for 4 years.

I PM'd you.

You're right. There are opening but there are also many applicants and the employers tend to pick the ones with more high acuity type settings for clinical experience especially if it's an in-patient position. I'm not familiar with the job outlook for family primary care settings. Do you know if there are a lot out there aside from the retail clinics? Have you looked into nursing homes? I used to always get a letter letting me know of job openings from these places.

No poening in any nursing home. I went to Gero program with the hope of finding job in NH or rehab center. But nothing for Gero NP. I am certified in both Adult and Gero but it really doesn't make any difference... At least There are jobs for FNP in retail clinic with 80 K start up.

It's the economy then. Not too long ago, I was still getting emails and letters from rehab facilities and nursing homes for job openings. Maybe because I used to work in PM&R. Even new grad RN's are having a tough time getting jobs here in Metro Detroit. Most places want RN's and NP's with experience. I wish I can offer more assistance but I'm afraid you did all you could already.

I looked on monster.com and typed in "adult geriatric nurse practitioner." Down towards the end of the page was a position in Detroit.

I'm sorta in the same boat: I'm an adult health CNS who needs to see kids. So, I looked into FNP but would have to repeat almost the entire program - so I'm doing a peds CNS program.
