What types of settings do acute care NPs work?
Many hospital departments and other types of in-patient settings such as long-term acute care facilities. Internal Medicine or General Surgery practice settings as well as a wide range of acute care sub-specialties (i.e., Cardiology, Pulmonary and Critical Care, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Interventional Radiology, etc.)

No. The official title for this NP specialty is - Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

There are programs for the Pediatric Acute Care NP. Off the top of my head, UT Arlington (Texas) has a post-masters program in this.

But, the Acute Care NP (ACNP) is educated in and provides care for adults only. Vanderbilt has an excellent program (also, UT Arlington), just to name a couple.

Many ACNPs work in the ED setting.

There are also programs that offer a dual cert in ACNP and Critical Care CNS. Other dual cert programs available as well.

So does University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Siri, do you know if they take the same certification exam for the PNP (offered by NCBPN/P) since the exam offered by ANCC is only for adult ACNP?

    no, they do not, pinoynp.

the pediatric nursing certification board (pncb) (http://www.pncb.org) offers year-round computer-based testing for pediatric and acute care pediatric nurse practitioners certification.
