3 Year Contract?

Hi all. :)

Just wondering, how long is your current contract? Or, what's the average contract length that you've seen? Talking to other NP friends, it seems to be 1-2 years.

I've accepted a job with a 3 year contract, but now I'm a bit worried that may be too long. Or is that pretty standard? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

3 year contracts are for organizations who pay for your education, military commitments, and movie actors.

It's a non-profit FQHC and they haven't been willing to negotiate on salary or sick time. If they don't negotiate on length of employment do you think I should run?

I want to take this job, and we're running out of money, but I feel like I keep getting all these little warning signs.

Yes, if they are unwilling to negotiate walk.

Thank you for the advice. What do you think is standard? 1 year? Most of my colleagues have 1-yr's, but I know a few with 2.

I have a 1 year. The physician I work with has a 2. I would only do a 1 year. I would definitely run if they want that long of a commitment with no budging on anything else. I understand the feeling of running out of money. Maybe try a prn RN position so you don't rush into the wrong thing.

Not NP here but -

I'm sure you've seen the posts here from others who question job situations because 'red flags' wave at them. Or they get that sinking 'gut feeling'.

Respondents invariably answer "FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCT". There must be a reason that warning system is alarming. I've learned to listen to that little voice.

I turned down a job specifically because it was 3 year contract. The last time I had a 3 year contract I was Navy nurse & got deployed. Most np contracts are 1 or 2 years but RUN if they will not negotiate.
