by jamiemd May 18, '11Hi...
I was a massage therapist but the repetitive stress caused me to stop that as my main source of income, which is when i decided to go back to school for nursing (which was what I wanted to do in the first place). It seems like there is a lot of threads regarding the incorporation of massage therapy with nursing and I was curious how that works?!?! The only environment I can imagine this is would be home health or a holistic facility like a birthing center or something?!? Anyway, being such, would it be beneficial for me to include my history/experience as a Massage Therapist when applying to the nursing program and/or applying for jobs?? Could I list this as a potential specialty??
Thanks

In short: Yes, do include your massage therapist experience in your applications.
While I don't know if it would be good for applying to the nursing program, I am almost certain it would benefit you while applying for jobs. Especially where you may apply for a job.
I am not sure of it as a specialty, but anything that promotes blood flow and relieves stress is sure to be beneficial in the medical field. (Holistic, Geriatric, Post-Trauma {both physical and mental patients}, In-House Care Facilities come to mind.)
I am into the mindset that more knowledge is more power to improve the quality of people's lives.
