Hi. I am considering WGU leadership and management master's program and was wondering if anyone here has completed it or are currently enrolled?? Was wondering if you would recommend? I ask because I see both good and bad reviews on here however, the comments made from bad reviews lead me to believe the individuals are not suited for independent study versus classroom. Any info or response greatly appreciated? PM me anything you don't want to post on a public board. Tahnks.

I completed the RN-BSN program through WGU and am currently working on my MSN Leadership & Management. It is a compentcy based program which is different than traditional programs. You have to prove what you know. If you are not self disciplined and need a lot of direction and explanation, it may not be for you. Personally, I feel that I have learned more than traditional online courses. Hope this helps!

So have you decided on the program yet?

I started WGU in Sep 2011 and love it so far. I should finish my masters in March. I was trying to finish in 6 months but I missed my dead line. I've went to many different types of schools and I love WGU. I started after I had a baby while on FMLA and found that I really benefit with the competency based model. In the past I would try so hard to always get A's (which most I the times I would earn a B) and be disappointed when my grade became available.

I really like that now I don't have to try and be perfect. Its different then other online classes that I've taken, in that I don't have to prove that I'm working on my school work. I started taking online course at Kaplan, which is a great school but it just was not for me! Some assignments required you to post to messages boards as a part of your grade. I would have been able to do it and I thinks I would have did just fine but WGU appealed more to me in the fact that you complete your assessments and your done. You didn't have to log into chats or always post to message boards. I think a Kaplan type program is great if you need someone to set the rate and due dates for you, where at WGU if you’re not on yourself to complete the courses and assessments, it’s easy to fail. There are times at WGU when working through a course it asks you to post to the message board, but I think it’s just to reach out to others not because it’s a part of your grade.</SPAN></SPAN>

All in all I really like WGU and I would recommend it to others that I know.

I am graduating in the next few weeks from this program. I have been very impressed by it!! I feel that I actually learned something, as opposed to some other programs I have heard of through friends where they wrote some papers, paid a lot of money, and got a degree. It is one of the best decisions I have made!!

I am a new grad RN, and I was looking into this program. As a new grad I'm a little ways from attempting a management position. This program appeals to me because of the cost and self pace.

I'm curious what other things could I do with this degree? Will a masters such as this improve my pay as a floor nurse? And will it limit opportunities as a floor nurse in the future?
