What would you do if you worked with a racist? - page 2

A few days ago my supervisor completely shocked me and my co-workers. She has let all of her nurses know that the reason she changed her child's school was because there were not enough blonde and... Read More

I despise people like these and feel no pity for them when they're sacked for racism in the workplace.

Don't worry about this witch. She's far inferior to racially diverse people like me because she's bottlenecking/inbreeding her gene pool.

Must be another racist folk among us.

If I could put my hand around this folk's neck to throw this uncivilized out of this forum.

Well, Let's try to love one another here since we pay our federal taxes.

I agree with the above person. Todd was calling the racist stupid, not the original poster. No need to wrap your hands around any poster.

It's very easy to read things the wrong way. Heaven's knows I've done it a few times myself.

Yep, I've done it, too. Hence my personal "no posting before a second cup of coffee" rule, and even that doesn't always work.

I have that rule too. I also have noticed that I can't post much after a 12-hour shfit. Sometimes I actually see things that aren't there. I've had to eat crow a couple of times this week already.

Crow and coffee are the mainstays of my diet.

OT a bit, but I had to laugh at your comment about seeing things that are not there. A few years back, while into the 10th hour of a 12 hour shift, I saw a rabbit hop out of a patients room. I remember walking a few feet past the door where said rabbit had appeared, coming to a dead stop and thinking, "Maybe I should go check on the patient" as in the rabbit may have been up to no good.

12 hour shifts are not safe in my opinion.

Returning you now to the topic at hand.

    Racism is Wrong

But Political Correctness Mccarthyism sometimes gets taken to far in this World.

I saw another case, didnt involve racism. However the Politically Correctness McCarthyism followers marched and demolished this nurses career, without proper investigation.

If it happened to me (and it has), I would tell the person I really do not appreciate comments like that. If that didn't work (and it did), the next step would be to report her to her supervisor and/or HR.

I would be very shocked just by the comment that she moved her children to another school because there weren't enough blonde/blue kids there. My husband and I deliberately moved to a mixed neighborhood when our son was growing up just to make sure he grew up around all types of people.
If this person has truly made all these remarks openly she should be removed from her job as she may hurt someone.
I have seen more than a couple of cases in my job where patients did not recieve the care they should have because the nurse didn't think they "deserved" it. I work to correct this whenever I see it happen. All people are deserving of the same standard of care regardless of color or wealth.
I will get off my soapbox now because I know I am preaching to the choir.
By the way, I am blonde/blue as is my son.

many people start out by saying something and if offense is taken they fall back with shocked look on their face and say 'its only a joke' it is not a joke it is mean and mean only gets worse
anytime someone says something like this they need to be corrected, politely and firmly they don't have a leg to stand on if there is an attempt of retaliation write it up and give them a copy

I can't help but to share this one - I found it outrageous.
My friend and colleague was called a nazi by a very upset physician and this was over a mundane issue. She is blonde and has a strong nordic accent. She took it really well; looking baffled and saying *but I'm not even german*. The physician was fuming.
He got away with it - believe or not.
I have to admire her. I could not have kept my mouth shut in that situation.

I'm not sure I admire the way your friend handled it. I would have reported him. But I'm Jewish and Nazi is not a term I find remotely acceptable.
