Recently I gave everybody a questionnaire about working as a team player. The purpose was for the staff to chose either A or B and then total up the score at the end, which would indicate what kind of team player you are and how to work on some area's.

I asked the staff to be as honest as possible

I have to share one of the questions which included 'I am Here just for the Paycheck"

which I am surprised to say the majority actually indicated that they were just here for the paycheck.

So now I am more understanding of why they are not gelling as a team and are constantly bickering. Unfortunately I have no clue of how I can solve this problem except get them more money-which we all know ain't gonna happen

Any suggestions

Could it be that the answer given was more indicative of morale, (I can't stand this place, and I'm only here for the paycheck) than true motivation?

Do you spend time on the floor and overhear off-the-cuff remarks? (I don't know what position you are in...sorry.) "We are always out of this?" "I can never find such-and-such!" "That doctor always hangs up on me, and I still need an order for all this other stuff!" "Why do we have to fill out this form when the information is already on this form!" "This form is so cumbersome; it needs to be redesigned." You get the picture.

Also, I know people often poo-poo theory, but management theory readings might give you ideas on what really is going on and ways to address it. For example, there are intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, and one extrinsic motivator can influence a multitude of intrinsic motivators.

I am a manager but spend a lot of time working on the floor, I try to help as much as I can. I will even work as the RN if there is a call off.

I think Morale is lower at the moment, we have had some changes in staff and that always causes a shift in staff comfort levels, whilst they adjust to the newcomers
