Stupid things doctors do?!

Nurses Relations

Published

I have been a member of a medical website and throughout the years I have ONLY read NEGATiVE comments about nurses and how they are useless, stupid, call for stupid things, and nurses come in handy only when they wipe @$$. Doctors VS nurses...war that never has an ending. Please list some stupid things doctors have done or do. I am very curious to know, thank you:)I hope you all had a great Easter :)

I think its' funny how we comment on stupid things nurses do but can't think of one single stupid thing a doctor does.

I don't believe in the nurses versus doctor war either. Why stoop down to their level? I just thought it was amazing that AN members rag on New grads and other nurses all day but can't think of anything to say about a doc... ummmm

I had a vascular resident ask me what VICU was. I must have made a look because he went, "It's vascular icu isn't it?"

I just don't see where a thread with negative comments about physicians does anything to make anyone feel better about physicians' threads with negative comments about nurses.

Where I work, we are a team - professionally, socially, and literally too ... for a 5K charity race. :)

I had a doctor order 30 mg of dilaudid once.......patient is still alive because I didn't give it simply as ordered but questioned, questioned and brought it to my charge nurse finally. I work with a ton of residents, and they are in various stages of learning, so they often need direction and correction for appropriate orders for patients.

I think my favorite one was when I asked a medical student if he wanted to insert a foley one day and he flat out told me no because he was going to school to become a doctor, not a nurse. The resident and attending in the room totally ripped him a new one over that and I loved watching every second of it.

To be fair, I was asked as a nursing student in the OR by a doc if I also wanted to do a pelvic on a patient that had just been put under before they started.

And I declined. If anyone had asked, I would have said that it was outside of the scope of practice that I was learning as a nursing student.

I understand your frustration. But, we also have to remember that what you read only represents a small percent of the whole picture. They probably had a bad day like we all do sometimes and say something they don't mean. We as "professionals" need to remember that we all need to work together and respect one another so we can give better care to our patients. Take care!

I hope this was a GYN patient.

It's funny this thread happened today bc yesterday I couldnt stop thinking about an issue I was having w a resident but I refrained from posting it. I wonder if the OP had residents in mind when she asked her Q bc this thread could be miles long if we all spilled the beans.

Yes, it was with a GYN patient who was getting a hysterectomy.

I don't like the "Stupid Doctors" threads. We're supposed to be professionals. When we do what they do it looks just as bad.

I wonder how much differently this thread would have been received if it had simply been worded "funny/silly" things instead of stupid?

In that case....

It was SO funny/silly when an MD insisted that my pt was having heartburn even though the ECG showed ST-elevation!

Hmm....no, it doesn't seem that "wording it differently" fixes the problemI hope that's not what you meant, brillohead. It's probably not but I had fun with it anyway
