It is hard to argue with job requirements, especially if this was announced in advance as mandatory.

If something is mandatory, they do need to pay you for it , so why not go in during the week, clock in, take your time and get this done with?

This computer update was not announced as mandatory.I was ,indeed offered .5 hours to come in so my computer could be accessed. The 1/2 hour does NOT cover my gas and travel time.. let alone the morning/ afternoon time lost on my day OFF. The real issue here is.. I was threatened regarding other issues, which are not pertinent to coming in.

Sounds like just another day in corporate America! I don't know how bringing a lawyer will help you, but I agree HR is not to be trusted and is not on the worker's side. They are there to assist management and make sure what they do is legal! If the manager wants to fire you they will simply show her how to do it legally. They will not defend you or help you!

Wow. You are to come in on your day off because.....your manager can't be bothered to come in when you are there!?!?!?! Usually, if an employee is "called back in" there is a minimum 2 hours for that in some facilities. Which may or may not have been worth it to travel to work. For a manager whose responsibility, I would assume, is to do these things when the staff is actually working. That your manager may be salaried is not your concern either.

Corporate or not, discussing other employees--even in the vaugest of terms, and what they did or did not do is wrong. That this email then morphed into a vent regarding every thing you may have done to tee off the manager is equally as wrong.

The best thing is that this is all in writing. Which, depending on HR may not be a good thing--but I would be prepared to answer to any and all issues.

Best of luck with this.

Thank you Jade, truly appreciate your insights.

If you bring a lawyer in, they will find a reason to fire you. Just going to warn you of that up front. They will document every single little thing you do from now on and once they have enough documentation, you will be fired. I have worked in many places over my years and have seen how this plays out. At one company I worked for, if they wanted to get rid of someone, they brought them to my store. I was the manager with the most experience and they would have me document and write them up for anything. Once they got enough, I was told to fire them. If someone ever threatened a lawyer or was what they viewed as a pain in the butt, that was it you were done for. They got 3 write ups and was then fired. Just be careful and as Esme said, pick your battles.

I'm curious , what did the supervisor say to you when you confronted him/her and you voiced your displeasure with the email?
