Patient: It's an Adjective as Well as a Noun

Last night we had a guy who was being very demanding from the other side of the curtain just as we were trying to get a new code-3 arrive dialed in. Several times, the other nurse and myself said, "give us a little bit, sir" but every couple a of minutes he'd start up again.

These weren't requests of an urgent nature and he could fully hear the whole situation unfolding 10 feet away on the other side of the curtain... he just wanted what he wanted right then and right there.

Finally, just as the new arrival was being wheeled out for CT, I walked over and attended to his request while saying, "Sir, patient is an adjective as well as a noun."

He didn't even get what I'd said... but I felt better for having released my irritation.

I love that you said that to him.

I also love that it totally went over his head.
