OMG Say it correctly!

Nurses Relations

Published

There is just somethings that really bother me, specifically mispronunciation of words. The specific abbreviation that realllllly grinds my gears is when a nurse or CNA/PCT says " O2 STATS" O2 "stat"uration?

Anyone have anything else that people misspell or mispronounce that gets them going??

theres also the all-impossible technical name for the bp monitor

sphygmomanometer ? (hopefully i got that one) i like to practice spelling it from time to time. firefox has no idea what i'm trying to spell haha

I love saying this word. I use it whenever I have the opportunity because I'm a ham and people actually think I'm joking or exaggerating ...but I'm NOT, that's really the word!!

I hate "sonimeter" or whatever it is.

Don't forget Pharynx also badly pronounced as (fair-nix). I am with you on this one....my instructors IN SCHOOL even said it the "bad" way

its pronounced sphyg-mom-an-om-eter isnt it? Or is it pronounced sphyg-mometer. My CNA instructor told me it was the later but I think its the first. :-)

I had no idea there was any way to say "rales" other than "rails." I have never heard anyone say it any other way - I probably would have given anyone who pronounced it differently a really funny look. "Rails" is correct pronunciation where I'm from - heard it like that from MDs, instructors, coworkers, everyone.

OK, it's getting late. Have to go The WalMart, The ACME and The ShopRite in the morning. I went to Sears, JC Penney's, KMart, Pathmark & Kroeger's yesterday.

Of all the posts on this thread, that one ( THE) cracks me up. Never realized I did it.

I also say mer-sa!!!

Psst. *nudges amoLucia* I'm from NC. It's Kroger. :) As in 'let's go Krogering' (actual old advert). Nothin' fancy 'bout it. :)

And it's actually not JCPenney's. It's the name of the founder, not in the possessive. JCPenney. Though I think most everyone says the "'s".

I hate hate hate HATE 'supposably' (OMG) and I TRULY hate 'irregardless'. OMG OMG OMG.

Anyone ever have a patient with - I love this, though, it's very country! - 'sugar diabeetis' or 'diabeetus', with or without the article 'the'? :)

Wanted to add: it's not Down's, it's Down Syndrome. And knowing it usually doesn't make it easier to remember.
