How do I file Sexual Harassment against a Dr

Nurses Relations

There is this doctor that is always being inappropriate. No matter how many times the female staff have written him up he continues to be inappropriate. Many examples: telling a nurse she has nice breast, talking about private parts being in other private parts, "you have very soft and delicate skin", "when are you going to have my baby", etc...

I just started working there 6 months ago and just these past 2 wks he has been starting the same crap with me. The first time he grabbed my hand and called me his mistress ....ummmm I DON'T THINK SO....and I wrote him up.

The second time he put his hand on my stomach and said "you have a very flat stomach"....eww don't touch me...and I wrote him up. :crying2:

The third time he stated that my skin is the color of brown sugar and when will he be able to satisfy his sweet tooth!......I stated to him that was inappropriate and wrote him up! Even gave him a copy!!!!

Also wrote a note to the manager and higher ups! But my peers keep telling me that all the complaints that have been made against him has fallen on deaf ears and mine will most likely too!

I am so frustrated that no disciplinary action has been done against this F***en Jerk!!!!

Go to human resources and file a formal complaint, also get a lawyer most have a free initial session. Good luck dealing with that pig!

If he touches you without your consent, after all of the write ups, can you go for a battery charge? IDK - but might be a way to get him to back off.....

Umm, why have we got past write up 1 is my question to have a write up 2 & 3. Find someone who deals with this and get them involved. One write up is all it should have ever been, no oppurtunity should exist for another write up after that. Oh, no, way.

Yeh, that's exactly what I'm thinking. If not anything, number two should've been the one that broke the camels back. This is just absurd to hear, I hope they deal with this piece of work...

Better idea, since the hospital isn't going to do anything (except look for a reason to fire YOU, seen that happen too many times over the years). Drop a letter to the local newspaper, give fear of retaliation as your reason for not signing your name, not with anything that could point directly to you, but just that the hospital has had multiple complaints, he's been written up multiple times, and the complaints aren't being addressed, and ****your concern is what he could do to an unconscious patient if no one else is around.***

Nobody cares about what happens to us, but a patient, oh, then they'll pay attention.

I don’t know what a “write up” means at your hospitals, but definitely treat it as documentation and take it to HR. Make sure you have a formal meeting with them and write a letter to document the events (document it as if this MD was a patient). The documentation can include things that are done to you and to other people as well. Although, it is up other people to file their own complaints, if you witness inappropriate behavior and it makes you uncomfortable, it is still a harassing environment.

If you are part of a union, ask a union representative to go with you. Discuss the case with him/her first before your meeting with HR. It will be good practice and the presence of the union rep will act as a witness (and hopefully deter retaliatory events). Sometimes the union representative may be aware of an existing problem with a particular MD and may be helping other nurses with the same situation. If you do not have a union, take a friend or legal representative with you to help you take notes. At your first meeting with HR, they may just listen but do not expect much action. They are most likely to say “I am sorry about your experience” and they will investigate it further. When this happens make sure that they are really checking the situation a week or 2 later.

Definitely document that you have asked this MD to cease (showing him the write ups is a pretty firm STOP message). If you were not able to tell the MD stop, document why, ex. you were scared, too mad to say something, in front of patients, in the middle of a procedure…

Good luck.

You can sue not only the doctor but the hospital for failing to act.

I would do what ever you need to to get read of him you never know where it will lead :crying2:. GOD and he a doctor ? What a sick @@@ You can also try a right cross? At my 2nd job I had a mail co-worker grabe me and start licking my ear having just been attacked badly at a former job I screamed stop! and tossed him into a wall :) I never had a problem after that !
