Last night a float pool tech ate my lunch and threw away my tupperware containers when he was done. I didn't know about it until it was too late, but I had homemade soup, yogurt, homemade cookies, and a drink tied in a bag in the work fridge. His excuse " there was no name on it". Now I did not catch him or see him personally, if I did I probably would have been fired. I was that mad. I am pregnant, and the cafeteria was closed. A coworker saw him eating it and the charge nurse questioned him. I heard today he does this on every floor he goes to. Don't you think this should be a fireable offense? I mean it is stealing right? He did not seem bothered at all, just said sorry didn't know it was yours. I am livid.

1. Who does that?

2. How could anyone think it is ok?

3. What if it was old?

4. Who does that?

5. It does not matter whose name is on the bag, if you did not bring it, then it is not yours.

I would tell his supervisor. Since he is in the float pool his manager may not be aware of his actions.

Bring stuff in again but this time with prune juice or something "similar" in the recipe (get where I'm going with this). Sometimes you need to do a little aversion training.

Wow, I probably would have been fired too; I have low blood sugar and you are PREGNANT, it would have been on!! He's so ignorant, if he's stealing lunches, there's no telling what else he's stealing! His manager needs to definately be told about this.

In addition to reporting it...start labeling your lunches with your name and date. Seriously. No, not having your lunch labelled is not an excuse for his behavior. But it'll give weight to your complaint--he could claim he thought the unmarked bag was his, or that he had permission from someone else to raid their lunch sack and "thought" yours was theirs.

While very tempting, I would not attempt "aversion" training as it could easily backfire--in the midst of a long shift, YOU may forget that you booby-trapped your lunch and be unpleasantly surprised.

While this would be hilarious I believe it's also illegal and could get you into a world of hurt.

I would suggest reporting him, especially if this is a trend for him. As well, to deter future attempts by him or anyone else, maybe get a nice lunchbag to put all your goodies in so no one can say "oh, I thought it was mine... Oh it didn't have a name on it.." etc.

Yeah, write him up. That's theft anyway you look at it. Make that the title, "Theft of my lunch and my tupperware containers".

Wow. I can sort get that people take sodas left out in the fridge, but to take homemade food in tupperware?! Honestly who opens something like that and eats it? I'd would've probably gotten fired in your position. That's insane. Make sure you lock your locker.
