Minot ND information

A few weeks ago someone posted some info about Minot hiring nurses. I can't seem to find the post and was wondering if anyone recalls the name of the staffing agency to contact. I'm interested in finding out more. Also if anyone has any insight into what life is like there (I know it's cold!!!) I would love to hear it.

I read that post as well and checked it out. The person to contact would be (MODERATOR EDIT OF CONTACT NAME/ENTITY - PLEASE DO NOT POST THIS PER TOS). I did check it out and it is legitamate. The pay is very low and the housing is almost non existant, so I am not sure if it is really worth the move. They do offer $5000 relocation and $5000 sign on bonus. I am going through them right now because it is very difficult to find a job where I am at. They also hire new grads at Trinity. PM me if you want more info. Best of luck!

When you say the pay is low, how low are we talking?

Really low! I think I made just below the hourly wage as a new grad. I have 3 years and 3 months of hospital experience and I was quoted aprox $23-$23.50/ hour (for med-surg floor). But I would get the relo and the sign on. What I am concerned about is the cost of living, with the flood and all there is very little housing. This could effect the price of housing and if I have to commute it would be even more expensive. The hospital does have housing (not sure about the cost), but there is a wait list.

It seems like us RN's are really getting low-balled as far as pay (nursing shortage...right? hmmmm). Sorry if this was TMI, I am new here.

I applied to and spoke directly with a director of ER. As a NG, I was offered $22 plus a signing bonus of $3000 IIRC.

@ChuckeRN: Yeah, I'm not sure that I will do it. The pay is just WAY too low! I am almost done with my BSN, so I may just sit it out for that bargaining power. Let me know how it goes for you though. Good luck :>)

I have been in contact with them as well. I was seriously thinking about it but what freaked me out was the housing market down there and not having a place to stay. Well since then I am currently engaged, and my fiance says there is no way I'm going down there. Good luck to everyone who is applying and making the big move.

From AZ, I was seriously considering moving there for a while - WITHOUT my family. But then, I received an offer the day after I spoke with Trinity. The Trinity hospital though sounds awesome.

I spoke to them as well and, based on the conversation, the lack of housing is a big issue.

I think all the young'ins have to remember that you will be going far from anyone you know. Don't count on an employer to be there for you if you can't find an affordable place to live. If you do manage to find a place to live, will you have car payments? school loan payments? If you've never been totally on your own financially, going to Minot would be a bad move.

You also have to consider the job. Hopefully, you will have a successful orientation and fly. If your job does not work out, you have little chance of working anywhere up there that will allow you to keep up on your bills as a nursing degree is very limiting - you'd have to save some emergency money and consider what breaking a lease and moving back to where you used to be would entail financially.

@netglow: Very true. If a person breaks a contract, then they have to pay the sign on back and would definately have to have emergency funds. Very sound advice. Thanks :>)

No one has mentioned the weather yet. Please look at the annual highs and lows and snow load. Be prepared for some flippin' bad storms.
