How is Fargo/Grand Forks?

by cinja

Hello NODAK RN's I posted earlier at MN link to inquire about jobs and conditions IN MN, I guess I can ask the same here. Myself, I am finishing my BSN here in Memphis TN and will work for a year to pay off most of my student loan. I grew up in N. Minn and would like to get back near there. I am familiar with Fargo since my brother played football at Moorhead State. Just like to know what are the fulltime employment figures like and is it just med-surg or are normally all depts open? Hope to hear from some of you soon.

I can tell you the two main hosp. in Fargo are Meritcare (meritcare.com) and Innovis (dakotaclinic.com) I think Innovis pays better but Merticare has better benefits. I know on the Meritcare web there is a job line and it lists the hiring scale if you clinic on the job you are looking at.

I agree with love2shop, Meritcare does have pretty decent benefits. There's quite a few openings available, in almost every department. I really like it here in Fargo, and I'm happy with my job at meritcare. Fargo is a nice place, and its got quite a bit to offer. I especially like the fact that it's so urban, but you can drive 10 miles out and see fields of corn! Gotta love the Midwest!

I like the Fargo area. I work at Innovis and like the smaller feel, but progressive hospital. It is brand new building as of 2000, and has beautiful rooms. I think the pay is comparable. Benefits are ok, don't help much with education expenses though. I have worked with the Dakota Clinic system (Innovis Health-Dakota Hosp) since I graduated in 1978. I just startedlooking for travel opportunities, and inquired about a job in CA, and they only paid 50 cents more than what I make now.
