If you are deciding between UNC and Duke, GO TO DUKE. I am a UNC student and I am very disappointed in the program. The accelerated program is 18 credits the first semester whereas Duke's is 13 (so much more manageable). The rest of the semesters are similar. The professors/administration leave much to be desired. If you have two professors giving contradictory information (which you will) and you address this issue with one of the professors, someone will quickly tell you not to make waves or cause problems. UNC tries to make the program WAY harder than it needs to be and they do so by piling on the course load (10 chapters in one week for Pharmacology anyone?) and asking subjective exam questions where you will not be able to find the answer in any textbook or class notes (no, I'm not talking about application questions, I'm talking about questions that are based on someone's opinion). Lastly, the grading scale is ridiculous. An A is 95 and above and an 85 is a B-... so if you're competing against a duke student for a grad school position, their 3.7 GPA will look a lot better than your 3.3 GPA. Yes, even if you were a straight A student and you work REALLY hard, it is highly unlikely that you will be getting straight A's (that is unless you can read the professor's minds). My friends that go to Duke don't share any of the sentiments of my UNC classmates. They actually have time for a social life too which is nice! Clinicals are much better than the first semester, but again, that grading scale can really hurt you when applying for grad school.

Wow- thanks for the heads up. I already had a funny feeling about UNC simply based on the people I spoke to. Everyone at Duke has been amazing but the people at UNC were not as nice...stupid I know but hey maybe something to it right?
Wish me luck...I was waitlisted at UCLA and second rounded at Duke.....dang it!
