Thank you for the info! That makes me feel better! I am not transferring. I graduated from College in 2008. I have a degree in Business. I just wish it had not taken so long to figure out nursing was the career for me. My sister and brother and law are nurses as well, so I have a lot of family support!
Well, since you have a degree already a lot of things should transfer in. Hopefully you'll get lucky! My fiance's mom is a RN in a cath lab, so I get a lot support from her. My grandmother and two of my great-aunts went to Watts in the 1940's, so it's definitely in my blood, too! I'm very honored to have been accepted to Watts because of that.
  2. Pretty cool you have past Watts students in your family! What classes are you taking at MOC? I talked to Watts yesterday, they said I should be getting a call from MOC in the next day or so Have you heard much about the workload after MOC? I see a lot of comments about MOC, but not very many about classes at Watts. Thank you again for answering my questions! It is great to have someone to talk to and be excited with!

Ncpony, I don't have my bachelors. I have taken a TON of classes, though. I also have my CNA and EMT licenses. I'm afraid to ask too many questions for fear of making someone mad. The lady in financial aid at MOC told me it would be another two or three weeks before I would have my appointment- that seems way too long to me! I'm concerned that I won't have enough time to figure out my living expenses, etc.
So what did you decide? About living expenses?
    :-)

I can not PM yet, but am researching through all the information you and everyone have posted.

I'm taking A&P, leadership, a psych, math, religion, and history. Can't remember specifically which classes though. From what little I know about the workload for MOC, it sounds kind of tough, but that's in the eye of the beholder! So who knows? I've enjoyed talking to you too. I wish we could give out phone numbers on here so it would be easier to talk!

I'm kind of up in the air at this point still. I think my parents are going to help me some and then I get paid to work with my grandfather everyday, so that helps too. If there's anything I can try to help you with, let me know! I am looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to know everyone!

My dilemma is living expenses. I dont know if you saw my other thread, but we have 3 children, 1 mortgage, 2 car payments....I am not sure we can make that on his salary-for 2 years. Right now, I feel bad because I do not have faith that what will happen will happen....but like most people, you want some type of preliminary plan for what you are going to do as far as education and career.

That's tough! The only thing I can recommend, and don't know if you've already checked out, is Wells Fargo student loans. Of course the interest rate is going to be higher than Stafford loans, but it may be worth it in the end. I'm fairly certain that you can take out up to $25000 for each academic year. You can look it up online and get more info and apply online too. I'm not married nor do I have any children, but I know it's got to be a tough decision to make. Just remember that if you finish at Watts and pass your boards (obviously), then you have a good chance of getting hired through Duke to work at Durham Regional and they'll pay back your tuition if you sign a 3 year contract to work for them. Just thought I'd mention that in case you didn't know!

Oh, wow. I didnt know that.
Thank you so much for the information. That would be a good alternative to NO income at all, even though it would have to be paid back.

I was talking with an NP the other day. Does anyone know the base salary of a fresh RN?

It varies. From what I've researched and what I've been told, it can range from mid to high 30's on up. Hospitals typically pay the best, especially if you specialize and home health care usually pays the worst.
  10. Hello everyone,

Tonight is our last class for our pre-reqs. Woo hoo! If you have your book list from MOC let me know if you would be interested in some of my books (If they are still using the same ones).
