  1. 0
    Hello AllNurses,

I just discovered that WSSU has an ABSN program. I want to apply and get some feedback on the program from current or past students. I have a non-nursing BA my GPA was a 3.1. Do I stand a chance for entry into the program with the following grades??

    Micro-C
    Anatomy I- C
    Anatomy II- B
    Chemistry I- B
    Dev Psy- B
    Statistics- C

Can anyone that was admitted give me any feedback? I am not getting any direct answers from the school.

Hi Hopeful4Nurse! From what I understand they want a GPA of around 3.5 and it is best if you don't have C's in your pre-reqs, although I can't say for sure because I haven't been through the program. I am planning on applying for the 2014 class since I need to finish up my pre-reqs. I have my BS from WSSU and I hear they like to accept prior students or Winston residents for the program. Anyone else have any input?

    Hi everyone,

I am also interested in the WSSU ABSN program, but I lost a bit of interest in the program when I heard funding won't be available from the local hospital. Still I will be applying! I believe it's important to apply to a bunch of programs. Have a plan B and a plan C. If nursing is really what you want to do, you can find a way in. Even if the ABSN program doesn't work out, you can go to a community college and get your Associates Degree in Nursing. You'll be taking the same NCLEX as nursing students with a bachelors degree. Then there are always RN-BSN degrees, even RN-MSN degrees. You could even do a one year LPN program and then do an online LPN-RN program from Davidson Community College in North Carolina.

    You can do it!

Have they finally come out to say that there will be no funding?

    Hi interestedinabsn,

I spoke with Dr. Cecil Holland the Assistant Dean of Admissions about a month ago and he said that there is no funding from Baptist. The 5 year contract Baptist had with WSSU ended this year and at the moment they are not renewing it at the moment. If you think about it, the situation makes sense. Five years ago the economy was in a much better place. Dr. Holland did say they are hoping the situation will change.

There are other ABSN programs in NC, have you checked those out?

    Good luck!

Why is WSSU asking for SAT or ACT when this program is a second degree?

Hey, I'm not entirely sure why. It could be an old requirement. Sometimes ABSN programs allow a few non-second degree students in. I would call the nursing program there. My guess is they just copied the requirements for the traditional 4 year nursing degree application and put it on the ABSN program.
