UNC-Chapel HIll School of Nursing

Did anyone attend UNC-Chapel Hill SON program? I plan to apply to UNC-CH SON for the Summer 2011 session. If so, how was it? Is the program really competitive? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

UNC will come right out and say they do NOT hire their graduates exclusively.

I agree with this, but I do think that there is an advantage to having had your clinicals at UNC. I know the new grads that I've talked to on several of my clinical floors have said that they did their clinical there, which helped them get a summer externship (which sucked that there weren't externships this summer) or NA job, and then they were hired. At the end of the rotations I've had at UNC the nurse manager will come talk to us and give us a little spiel about interviewing and inevitably one will say that they wanted to hire someone who was an NA on their floor or who they had gotten to know from clinical and how they would work with HR to hire them. On two of my rotations the nurse managers handed their cards out at the end and said to email them when we started looking for jobs. It has been so hard to get a job lately I will for sure be emailing them soon!

greetings all,

I am planing of moving to North Carolina, but i wanted to know the pay rate for an RN BSN with experience at UNC Chapel Hill hospital. Please reply.

I don't think anyone can really answer that for you. Have you tried straight out calling nurse recruitment? It depends on the unit, your experience, shifts, etc.

Specializes in Neuro.

unc is a great school. my gpa was 4.0. i know folks with 3.0 that got in too. they look at the whole package. true that at the big hospitals there are not a lot of jobs in NC at least at duke, wake med, and unc...or should i say it is harder to take your pick. becoming a cna at the hospital you want to work for is a great idea. once you're in the hospital, start networking and you are more likely to get a job, in my opinion.

Did anyone apply to UNC-CH ABSN Spring 2011 program? If so, does anybody know (around) when they send out acceptance letters? Or anyone who has been accepted in previous cycles, do you remember? I have been accepted to MUSC but was hoping to hear from UNC before having to send in my deposit-just to keep my options open if I get accepted. Thanks!

My understanding is that the letters for January start will go out at the end of October.

From looking at posts from previous years I am pretty sure we have to wait till mid November. People heard in the past as early as the 1st week till the 16th. We have a long wait still! : (

Thanks! I was afraid of that...I wish it weren't so late!

Does anyone know how many they plan to admit for the spring term? Or if anyone is currently at UNC-CH, how big is your class?

Has anyone tried to call yet, when the 12 week mark is drawing near they normally will either say...It takes at least 12 weeks, which means they are not ready or they say letter will be sent out the 1st and 2nd week of NOV.

Some letter have been sent, a friend of mine got hers and was admitted.

Birth revolution,

Do you know if that was for the 24 month option or accelerated?

Thanks- leslie
