UNC ABSN Summer 2010

U.S.A. North Carolina

Has anyone heard from UNC Chapel Hill about the Summer 2010 start for the ABSN program?

i was contacted by mail- yes i was on the waiting list

Thanks for the info and congrats! Im still on the waitlist hoping I'll be as lucky as you!

me too! Stay hopeful! I got the letter yesterday so maybe you may get one today!! :) fingers crossed.

for all the safety and legal requirements..

1. OSHA training/testing - where and which one do we have to do?

2. background check - can we do that online ?

3. AHA - BLS - can we just take a class?

I live in Florida and I just found out yesterday so I am definitely behind already, since i was waitlisted. I am soo freaking out! If anybody could give me any information, i would definitely appreciate it! Thanks!

For the OSHA training we have to do 1. bloodborne pathogens 2. tuberculosis and infection control 3. healthcare worker/JCAHO safety info. You have to score above a 70 on each section. Then you e-mail [email protected] saying when you completed the online course or you can fax a copy of the completion certificate to them.

You need to mail in the background check payment (40 dollars) and then UNC Nursing School will run the background check on their own.

The AHA-BLS is offered through the school of nursing. Cost is 60 bucks and they have 4 different dates to choose from.

.....I would recommend calling the school of nursing and asking them about your concerns since you just found out and some of the deadlines may have already passed. They're more than willing to help. Congrats on the acceptance!

Sorry for my slow response! Lots going on these days :). I hope you're still up for breakfast/brunch this Saturday. I don't mind coming out to Silver Spring, but, of course, there are great places in DC as well. I actually live close to the red line so I can just hop on the metro and come your way. How does that sound?

Thanks for the facebook info--hoping to get my UNC address tomorrow!

No worries! I'm definitely still up for breakfast/brunch. And that sounds great. I can meet you at one of the restaurants near the station.

Great! I got your PM message, but I don't think I've posted enough on here yet to send a PM myself. If you want to PM me your e-mail address then I can coordinate with you that way.

Any of the places you mentioned sound fine--I love Panera! I'll wait to hear back from you and we can work out a time and maybe get cell numbers as well.

Also, this is random, but there is some kind of glitch with my PID number and I haven't been able to create an Onyen yet. They're supposed to be fixing this for me, but I'm not sure how long it will take. All that to say, do you have a for all the textbooks we're supposed to get? No worries if you don't, but I can't get access to the bookstore without an Onyen so I thought I'd ask! Thanks!

Ok Panera it is. I'll PM you again to exchanged e-mail addresses/cell numbers.

And the same thing happened with my PID number. Apparently it takes UNC undergrad a few days to convert us in the computer system. I got my letter from undergrad on a Friday and was not able to create an ONYEN account until tuesday. I'm not sure about the text books because right now I can't even see if I'm registered for classes. I know we get automatically registered for classes, but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to see there or if it's been done yet.

I was wondering if anyone had any info about the ABSN waitlist. I am on the waitlist and anxious to find out any info. How many have been admitted off the waitlist or how many usually are? Any info anyone has would be great.

Hey guys! I'm applying to the ABSN program for Spring 2011 and I had a quick question: is it true that recommendations are not required nor accepted by the program? That's what the old application said for your group, but I couldn't tell if it was true for just the regular BSN program or for both the BSN and ABSN programs. Thanks!

It's true. UNC-CH did not require or accept any recommendations for my application for the accelerated program starting summer 2010.

When did you have to apply by for the summer start? It says you have to have your first degree completed before you can apply, and I graduate in december....will I still be able to apply? I hoping you didn't have to have them in until January 1?? thanks!

I graduated last december, but I cut it close (graduated the 19th). The application deadline last year was December 22nd. Just call the nursing admissions office. They're really helpful and they'll let you know how/what to do. Good Luck!
