UNC ABSN Summer 2010

U.S.A. North Carolina

Has anyone heard from UNC Chapel Hill about the Summer 2010 start for the ABSN program?

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted into the Nursing program at UNC. I will be starting a BSN program at UNC in May and need to take the TEAS test next week. My orientation and test are scheduled for April 6. I am in desperate need of a TEAS 3.0/4.0 Study Manual. I wanted to purchase it online today but realized that it will take a few days for it to be delivered to me. I need this book ASAP to prepare for the test. I was wondering if anyone took the test already and would like to sell their manual to me. Thank you!!!!

Yes, they should include a deadline day for you in the letter. For the BSN program they told me to respond before March 23. If you did not have this day included in your letter you should contact OASS ASAP (their phone N was included with the information). Hope, it helps.

Hey unless you are looking to live by yourself, I may have another option for you. Let me know if you would at all be interested in roommates, as I know of a great house within walking distance to Franklin and right on a busline. Also really reasonable rent.

Hey, I'm down for having a roommate/roommates definitely. I just didn't know anyone in the program so I started looking at 1 bedroom places. Where is the place you're talking about? :)

Also, Congrats to everyone who got in!!!! Where is everyone thinking about living? I'm from right outside DC and pretty much don't know anyone in the Chapel Hill area so I'm trying to get a general idea of where people are looking....considering we'll be spending a lot of time together...

I received my acceptance on Friday--I live in Washington, DC. But the admissions office previously told me they were sending out decisions both last week and this week so I'm sure they'll come soon!

I got mine on Friday too and I'm from Silver Spring, MD. For everyone who hasn't received anything yet, I went to the pre-orientation session this past monday and the director of admissions at nursing basically said she didn't expect many of the ABSN people to be at the session because she knew that many of the letters had not gone out yet. I'm sure you'll all be hearing very very soon!

For those who were admitted, did they give you a deadline that you had to accept/decline the offer?

Also, do you think it be best to contact undergrad admissions or the school of nursing?

My reply form said I had until March 31st to accept the offer. Not sure if that was universal or just depended on when people's letters were sent out. My letter was dated March 19th and I didnt receive it until the 26th so I'm not sure if March 31st was the deadline for everyone to reply/confirm their spot.

oh and it's probably better to contact school of nursing directly. they're pretty well organized and can direct you to wherever you need to go based on the questions you have.

I also got mine on the 26th, and had to send a reply by the 31st. My letter was postmarked the 22nd, and I live in DC.

How was orientation? I plan on going April 10th--I wish I could go sooner, but am still working at the moment!

Pre-orientation went well. We just got the basic overview and everything. I was one of the few ABSN people there lol. All I can say is make sure you get that safety, legal and compliance checklist done! They were very clear about needing that! But the real orientation is May 10 (day before classes). I'm excited to start :) Oh and the TEAS test.....was not very difficult at all, just FYI.

Hello,

Did you use the TEAS Study Manual to prepare for the exam??? My TEAS is scheduled for April 6th but I haven't gotten any books yet. I feel anxious about the test as I need to go over Science material again. Any suggestions what material would be the best to purchase to cover all 4 TEAS sections? I read a few posts here and some people recommend to buy McGraw-Hill Nursing School Entrance Exam instead of TEAS study Manual. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you.

To be honest I didn't use any study manual. But a brush-up on basic math and science is recommended. The nursing school entrance exam study guide may help as there are a few questions that are pretty specific (and I couldn't remember from highschool/basic college courses). Don't be anxious though, it's not bad at all!

Hi enowak12,

Thank you for your reply. English is my second language - that is why I am so anxious. High school from my home country is different from yours and it was sooo long time ago. I never took Geology class and worry about rock formation etc. Also, I did not order TEAS study manual on time. Two days ago, I realized that it won't be delivered here on time. They are asking $61 for the manual and the shipping cost to deliver it in 2 business days -it is too much. I am taking the exam next week on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I did not find anyone from NC who would like to sell the TEAS study guide to me. Yesterday, I got several Nursing School Entrance Exam books from Cary library and trying to cramp through for the past 24 hrs. What about Science section? I have read several posts from the last year and many people did not like this part. What is so bad about it? Thank you.

Thanks for the info! I am scrambling to get all those compliance requirements (mostly hunting down immunization records :)), but it should all come together soon.

It's cool that you're from Silver Spring. We're just a metro ride away from each other--it would be fun to get together, although I'm sure you've got plenty going on with re-locating. When are you moving?
