Thoughts on PCMH (now Vidant Medical Center)

U.S.A. North Carolina

Does anybody have any input about working as an RN at Pitt Memorial in Greenville? I've been interested in working there but attend school in another part of the state and have not been within Pitt before. Non-nursing employees of the hospital have told me it is a great place to work, but I do realize that nursing is unlike any other job. I'm particularly interested in information about ER and Heart Institute, but any input is welcomed.

One of my main concerns is that the hospital is too big, and I'll just be a number in an endless sea of nurses. I will be a new grad this summer, and I have applied to their residency program.

Thanks!

Bump. This place is the bomb.

I have a few questions about the process of receiving a residency position with Vidant. I submitted an application last week for the Fall residency. should I call them and make sure my materials were received or just sit and wait for a call (I am impatient haha)? I am very hopeful about receiving an interview, but I have no idea what my odds are. My GPA is nothing outstanding, it was a very tough BSN program (for me at least!). I highlighted my other strengths, but I do not know if that is enough.

How long after you submitted your applications were you called for an interview?

Thank you so much!

Hello! I really cannot give you any exact input on how Pitt County works. I am a new grad but from NJ. I went to PCMH last week to shadow a nurse. One thing I can tell you, I had a wonderful time shadowing. It seems like a good place to work. I spoke to several nurses there and all I heard were good things about the hospital. It is a huge hospital. But look on the brighter side, you have a lot options there. Each unit has a manager who would know you as a person, and not just as a number there. I will be starting employment there by summer. When I start, I would gladly give you reviews if you want. :)

Just wondering if you can fill us in on your experience as I am also from NJ looking to relocate to NC.

Thanks:nurse:

I'd like to ask if anyone has done the health screen (PCP) - how hard it was? Specifically, how much weight do you need to lift to get a job? Is it doable for someone who is short and small-framed?

I just applied and I am wondering how the application process goes?

Thankkkss!!

Hi

I was wondering if you got the answers to your questions? I also just applied and am wondering the same things.

Thanks!!

TigerLilie, do you still work there, I just had an interview at the heart center. How do you like working there?

From what I heard that they are residency program for new graduates has already filled for this year. But you may want to call them and double check.

Hi all!

I just applied for the 2013 Staff nurse residency program for new grad nurses. I absolutely love reading all of the information on this feed, it's very informative. Can anyone give information on the relocation package? I talked with a recruiter via email and she stated they offer up to $5500 for relocation reimbursement and I'd have to sign a 2 year contract with them after the initial orientation (16-20 weeks).

Also, for those of you who have applied for the nurse residency program at Vidant can you give a little bit more information about how it went. Thanks

I'm currently in the new grad program at Vidant; they have one just about every other month. We relocated with the military, so I didn't get an reimbursement from the move, but the residency program has been pretty good. Parts of it remind me of nursing school, except now I am being paid for it. They offer the longest nursing residency program I have heard of (original job offer in a Florida hospital would have yielded me a 6 week orientation), here I am getting 18 weeks. I feel confident that I will be prepared to manage my patients on my own at the end of orientation. I love it all so far: great managers, great corporate officers, friendly faces and lots of teaching!I wish you the best and hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

I just received a phone call telling me they are going to set me up with a skype interview!! I currently live in Massachusetts and am looking to relocate to North Carolina. Is there anyone who has gone through the program that could tell me what new grad RN's make?? I don't want to go through the whole process if it isn't going to be worth my while, since I currently have an RN job in MA!
