The Big Move..

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm from Ireland wanting to travel and work for a year. My friend has recently got offered a graduate programme in North Carolina and has asked me to go with her.

I'm newly qualified and have been in post now for 9 months working in Intensive Care.

Am I crazy in thinking of moving over with her? What is it like to work as a nurse over there? Would I find it difficult to find work?

Sorry, I have sooooo many questions.

Hope someone can give me some guidance and point me in the right direction.

Thanks :)

No clue as to an answer to your question, just had to say that I love your home country and of course think you're nuts for wanting to leave it. ;) Don't you wish they had an exchange program for nurses where we could swap countries for a while? I'd happily take your spot in Ireland for a spell while you took mine in North Carolina. A girl can dream...

Me too!!!! I think you are definitely NOT crazy to do something like this. I would love to.

Not sure at all how you would go about getting here. I do know that we have a lot of nurses from all over the world where I work.

Off the top of my head, I think it would be a bit of a challenge with medications. I think there are many that are approved in Europe and not here and vice versa.

Caring and compassion make you a good nurse, the skills and tasks are easy to learn. Good luck and keep us posted if you come!!!!! I am of Irish descent and would love to go to Ireland someday.
