Raleigh/Durham Nurses

U.S.A. North Carolina

I am thinking of relocating to the Raleigh/Durham area in the near future. I have 1 year critical care experience in a cardiothoracic ICU at a level 1 trauma center and hope to find a position in a critical care area in one of the hospitals in that area. I have found openings at UNC, Duke, and WakeMed. If anyone has any imformation (salary, staff, patient population, benefits, differentials, etc.) that I could use to compare the three places I would greatly appreciate it.

Specializes in Mother and Baby.

I can't give specific numbers for you, but they are all large hospitals with level 1 trauma status, I believe. Personally, from my physician and nurses at her office, they aren't thrilled with the treatment from Duke. I don't know too much about UNC since I am in Raleigh, but I know they have a great reputation. I personally would like to work at Wake Med. They are non profit, and treat their employees well. Rex Hospital in Raleigh is not Level 1, but they are a respected hospital in Raleigh, just a bit smaller.

Specializes in OR, ER, Med-Surg, ICU, CCU, Home Health.

I work at UNC Hospitals. It's a good place to work. I think salaries are competetive and they include all your nursing experience when the determine your starting salary...if you have LPN or other medical experience, that is factored into your RN salary. They are working toward "Magnet" status and the autonomy of the nurses here is greatly improved. Hope you consider UNC.
