Question about moving/relocation packages

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Good evening everyone,

I have read the forums for the past two years while in nursing school and now I am a graduate on the road to take my NCLEX to get licensed very soon. I currently live in Virginia and have machinations of moving to the Raleigh/Durham area. I spoke with a few recruiters so far, nothing set in stone, until I find out I passed state boards for my compact license.

I am curious, however, about relocation packages. I am going to consider the big three of the area, WakeMed, Duke, or UNC, but I would like to hear from anyone that has recently relocated to either of the above. My question specifically does not necessarily concern the amount of relocation reimbursement each system offers, though I am intrigued by amount, my concern is that when speaking to the recruiter at Duke, I learned that they contract a couple of moving companies to help with moving and then deduct the fee from the package... in my situation, that sounds too good to be true. I do have hopes of working per diem eventually, as I am still fairly young and benefits don't intrigue me as much as having extra cash to pay the bills (my wife opts to work full time with benefits...its something we are both considering)..however, if I have to work full time for a year or as necessary (I think the new grad programs at each system, GEMS for example, requires full time commitment)... for the experience. In short, I want to know if anyone has used a moving company contracted by Duke, or whatever hospital in which they are employed, and what their experiences were.

I am leaning toward the Raleigh/Durham area, specifically Duke University because of their Nursing Informatics program, as I am currently a librarian in Virginia and I deal with information systems on a daily basis, but I will be willing to consider any other facilities in the area that will make moving...relatively bearable financially, physically, and psychologically (heh). Thank you for your time. I look forward to your replies.

:yeah:
