Nursing east nc at vidant medical center

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I am a rising senior nursing student. I am a Virginia native and I have some family in the new Bern area. I am looking to apply here in my home state at UVA medical center and vcu medical center but I plan to apply in that area as well specifically vidant medical center and Carolina east medical center. I was just wondering if anyone worked at either of these places and could give me some inside information. First off it is a beautiful area and love the proximity to the coast and the cost of living there is cheaper than Charlottesville and Richmond but I was wondering how much difference there is in pay. UVA offers $21/hr and $ 3 shift differential. I would just like to compare that to the east nc area pay. Thanks for any information

For new grads, the pay is $21 dollars and hour with a 2 - year contract. You can have orientation from 16-22 weeks depending on the floor you get hired on. Differential doesn't start till you finish your orientation on the unit. Also you have to stay at least a year on the floor that you are hired on once you finish orientation. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Yea UVA doesn't offer the shift differential until after orientation either. But what is the shift differential there at vidant? How is it working in such a large hospital I mean UVA is no small hospital 400 and some odd beds but vidant is like 900 I have seen it in person it's huge. Also do you know anything about Carolina east medical center?

I'm not sure about Carolina East. I've never heard good or bad things about it. With Vidant, I feel like it depends on the unit that you are on with regards to how you are treated. I have not worked for Vidant but I did all of my clinical rotations there and was hired but had to turn it down. I wanna say that the differential is about the same as UVA working from 11pm-7am.

My MIL works for one of the smaller Vidant hospitals and I believe her shift differential is $4 - I'm not 100% sure so don't hold me to that. To be honest with you, she is looking a new job, but I'll also tell you that a lot of that is more her than the system itself. I've heard that nurses who work for the big hospital in Greenville are happier with their jobs than nurses at some of the hospitals that were acquired by Vidant.

Specializes in many.

The smaller Vidant hospitals have some better bene's but VMC gives you more bang for your buck clinically. VMC gets the sicker patients and more high risk.
