Fall 2011 Mercy School of Nursing Hopefuls...

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi there! I have applied to Mercy SON for Fall 2011. I am anxiously waiting to find out about acceptance. Is there anyone else who has applied to MSON for Fall 2011 as well? We could keep each other updated in case we hear anything:)

I got my letter today too. I am also waitlisted :(. I emailed to ask about placement number, etc. Is there anyway to move up on the waitlist?

Thanks techr2nurse and Beggin4Mercy. I am still mulling over the threads looking for a glimmer of hope. Now I have to decide if I should pay CalCampus for microbiology in the hopes that I might get in before August. No other school will accept their 3 credit course but Mercy will (of course no other school has the night/weekend program that I need, either). I was planning on taking it once I got an acceptance letter but that didn't happen... :crying2: I want to be ready in case I don't have much notice if I'm accepted but I've already spent so much time and money and that wait list letter was just so discouraging.

@mamajjr - One of the threads here mentioned that completing the pre-reqs and doing well in them will move you higher on the list but I don't know for sure. I emailed Ms. Hatley and she told me she can't tell me where I am on the list until she gets all of the responses from everyone, which makes perfect sense. She said she would know closer to May. I was going to send her another email asking if completing my last pre-req (microbiology) would move me up. But I'm going to wait a little bit - I don't want anyone from admissions getting mad at me for emailing too much right now. LOL

I know I should be glad that I was at least wait listed but I can't figure out why I didn't get in. I have a 4.0 GPA, I scored higher than required on the SAT, and I did pretty well on the TEAS. I guess with so many applicants, there's just always going to be somebody that does better......

Sorry for my rant, though I do feel a little better. :)

@mamajjr,

It's also my understanding that completing more prereq's can help you move up on the waitlist. If you are currently in any of the prereq's, I would definitely send that transcript in at the end of the semester.

@medic2131,

I know that it's a really tough call for you on the microbiology issue. If I were in your place, and this was my plan had I not gotten accepted for August, I would still continue on the path that you are on. I had decided that if I hadn't been accepted, I was still going to take microbiology this summer so that I could be even more competitive to apply for the next semester. It just all depends on how committed you are to MSON. I had all my eggs in this one basket, and I had no intention of going anywhere else, so I would have kept trying. And from what I've read, many people have been accepted on their second attempt. (And that's if you don't get called in the next couple of months.) You are ultimately just going to have to go with your gut instinct. Oh and by the way, I wouldn't hesitate to email admissions with your questions. That's what they are there for, and I KNOW that many waitlisted folks are dying for more answers.

I have been looking through the forums and noticed a lot of people that have taken 4 credit microbiology classes online. So far, I'm thinking Eastern Oregon University might work. Anyone know anything about them? They are relatively inexpensive and have eight week sessions so I can still be finished in case I do start in the fall. I'm going to check them out in greater detail tomorrow but was hoping someone here might have seen something in the forums or know a little bit more...

Hi medic2131 and mamajjr! From what I understand, the wait list is not ridiculously long and your position on it is determined by the number of points you have, so you really don't get any higher by finishing prereqs unless it's AandP IandII. Do you know how many points you have? That will be what determines how you compare to other applicants for the fall and spring if necessary.

Hey mamajjr, York Tech in Rock Hill, SC also offers an online micro - i'm thinking of taking it this summer. I'm not sure of the particulars, whether is blended or all online, but you may want to look into it.

I did ask about whether completing pre-reqs will help one's standing on the waiting list. It does not. The positions on the wait list are determined by academic standing and TEAS scores only.

Also, I checked in to Eastern Oregon University and whether Mercy will accept their micro. They will! There is no out-of-state tuition and it is entirely online. It also has a lab component so it's a four credit course.

@Beggin4Mercy - I decided to go ahead and go for the micro now. It will ease my mind knowing that I won't have to do anything last minute and feel rushed in the event that I do get accepted for August. If nothing else, the credits will be good if I need to apply again next year. Like you, I put all my eggs in Mercy's basket because I need their night/weekend program. Is that the program you're in?

Whoops! I'm so sorry about the misinformation about the prereq's and the waitlist. I suppose that's what I get for going on info I've read on this board instead of from MSON. Thank you for clarifying for everyone though!

I am going into the regular daytime program.

Ha, ha! I read the same info from these forums and was hoping it was all correct. I'm not giving up hope, though. There are several people within the forums that were called at the last minute and offered slots so it is definitely possible. I'm hoping I can get in this August so I won't have to wait a whole year before I have another opportunity for the night/weekend program, but I'm not going to count on it. Isn't that usually when it happens? :)

beggin4mercy and techr2nurse - would you guys email me at [email protected]. I can't send emails through the forum or I would. Just put your name in the subject line so I'll know it's you - thanks a bunch.

Beggin4mercy,

Did you get a response back from Mercy? I too, applied for the nights and weekends for Fall and was just informed that Mercy is not having it because they do not have enough people!!! I am devastated!

What!?!? They are not having the night/weekend classes in fall?? How did you find that out?
