Excelsior College Grads in NC

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Is there any bias against Excelsior College graduates by the North Carolina Board of Nursing? Are there any hospitals in North Carolina that will not hire Excelsior grads? I am a Georgia resident and have planned to apply for a North Carolina license after I graduate from Excelsior and pass (fingers crossed) the NCLEX. I want to do this because 1) all of the recent turmoil caused by the recent actions of the Georgia Board of Nursing, 2) North Carolina is a compact state, and 3) my sister is a North Carolina resident and would help me relocate if necessary.

Excelsior Graduate here!:nurse: Just graduated Feb 20th 2009 and passed the NCLEX March 6th. I live in NC and near Raleigh. I had interviews at 3 hospitals in the area and got job offers at all of them. They had nothing but great things to say about Excelsior. Many of the managers told me that some of their LPN's on their unit and within the hopsital was doing the program. North Carolina :heartbeat Excelsior College. You should not have any problems finding a job in this state.:D

That's great to hear. :yeah:

If I have to re-locate to NC, I will probably be looking in the Winston-Salem, Greensboro area. I hope that things there are like around Raleigh.

Wow, That is great I know it has been a while since you have been on here but I was wondering if you were an LPN first? I went to LPN school but was unable to complete because I had to relocate to NC from VA. Although I am currently working in the Hospital as a NA in the ER most of the supervisors I have asked about the program have never heard of it. Which hospitals have you gone to and how long did it take you to obtain your license? One more thing where were you able to do your clinicals I know I am asking a lot but I am really interested in the program and they have a class starting in November. I have been on the waiting list at Wake tech for 2yrs now and watts just scares me (LOL). I hope to hear back from you about this I would much rather get this info from a previous student than the school since I have heard of so many scams.

Thank you

Bella

If you don't mind my asking which hospitals and what units. I'm in the Charlotte area and one of the big issues I run into is some area hospitals want special forms filled out by your instructors which obviously we don't have because you're self taught (I'm tempted to fill them out myself since I thought I was a great student to myself). I'm waiting to see if Excelsior fills them out. I interviewed for a floor position in Fayetteville and the manager had obviously not heard of the program and gave me some serious looks  when I tried to explain the clinical part. Any advice you have would be :heartbeatappreciated:heartbeat because the job market is AWFUL!

Come over to the Distant Learning board under the Student tab. There are alot of people doing Excelsior. NC is a Excelsior friendly state so there are not issue. I work at Wakemed Raleigh and they did not have a problem with my degree. There are several nurses there that went through the program so most of the managers know about it. I also got job offeres from Johnston Memorial and Betsy Johnson. The EC test are hard but if you study you should have no problems. I recommend that you pay the $75 application fee and send your transcripts so they can tell you all the classess that you need. I finished the program in 12 months. (Dec 08). Its a program that takes alot of motivation to complete. Good Luck!

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take from the interview for you to get a job offer from Betsy Johnson? Thanks
