Excelsior College Grads in NC

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Is there any bias against Excelsior College graduates by the North Carolina Board of Nursing? Are there any hospitals in North Carolina that will not hire Excelsior grads? I am a Georgia resident and have planned to apply for a North Carolina license after I graduate from Excelsior and pass (fingers crossed) the NCLEX. I want to do this because 1) all of the recent turmoil caused by the recent actions of the Georgia Board of Nursing, 2) North Carolina is a compact state, and 3) my sister is a North Carolina resident and would help me relocate if necessary.

Do you mind telling me how long it took to get an offer from Betsy Johnson? Thanks

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take from the interview for you to get a job offer from Betsy Johnson? Thanks

I personally called the recruiter for BG. They set me up for a interview fairly quickly. Their Shift diff suck! Only 10-12% of your base. I turned them down and currently work at Wakemed Raleigh. Their have greater opportunity here but its hard getting on unless you know someone. You ladies get your RN and look me back up. My boss is very familiar with EC and had no problems with the program. She actually encouraged me to help another LPN on our unit to get her RN through EC.

I would take anything at this point. I was just curious because I have an interview with them and they ran a background check. I am just waiting to hear back from them and really want the job. They said it would take 2 weeks and it seems like forever. Thanks

Hi,

I'm looking for a 'tutor' for CPNE. I had an easy time of things until the CPNE, the last hurdle. Did 2 workshops & was probably adequately prepared, but nerves took over & I was not successful 1st time. I need PRACTICE with someone standing over me scrutinizing my every move :-) Am also doing some cognitive/behavioral work on anxiety for this particular situation. Anyone out there a prior or current EC student with interest in paid or exchange experience?

Thanks.

Anyone in NC get hired as an Excelsior RN graduate? I am a paramedic considering Excelsior but the NC BON said although they will accept Excelsior grads to take the state exam here and obtain your nursing license, there is no guarantee that you can find a job. They stated that most of the big hospitals in NC will NOT hire Excelsior nurses.

Just saw your posting. Try Youtube.com. Look for videos that will help you. If you practice something over and over, you won't be so nervous, it will come without thinking. Take a deep breath, slow your racing mind down, and if you are unsure of what your next maneuver should be, just state to the nurse preceptor that you want to reassess your patient again. This gives you time to think over anything that you may have missed.

Have you taken the CPNE again yet?

So not True! I work at WakeMed in Raleigh and did not have a problem, matter of fact, my manager just hired another Excelsior grad with no hospital experience.

I am so sorry that I forgot to call you! There is not reason to be afraid of the Excelsior program unless you plan on moving to one of the states that do not accept the program. At first I was afraid of signing up because of the 2.5 day clinical that some people where failing and posting negative things about how they tried to fail you for any little thing. That lasted for a good hot second because I can do anything that set my sights on. Focus on getting through the test. Pass those first. Some people don't even get to the clinical because they cant motivate themselves to study on their own to pass all the test.It takes alot of motivation to open up a book and follow a course outline and take a test without anyone setting deadlines for you but I did it! I completed all my test and retook 2 in 6 months. I completes the whole program in 12 months and so can you. I applied fresh out of LPN school, worked in a nursing home while doing the program and passed the clinical with NO repeats. Was it tough? Yes! Was I prepared? Yes. They tell you every thing that you need to do. There are no surprises! They are fair and want to see you succeed!
