Duke New Grad / SNIP 2013

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone. I haven't found a thread for this topic yet, so I decided to start one. Who else submitted their application on Feb 1st for the various new grad positions at Duke?

I flew in for the interview. They told me the manager was only available on this one day and they would let me know what time the interview would be at. It was also the day after final exams I had to interview. So I flew down the the morning of the interview, changed into scrubs at the RDU airport and got in a taxi to the hospital lol. Then after my interview I had the taxi guy come pick me up and take me back to the airport. It was a stressful day to say the least..

Also, I was only a 2.5 hour plane ride away so coming across the country the flight may not be feasible without more notice

Specializes in L&D.

Im not sure how long the plane ride is from Louisiana..I know it's a 15-18hour drive!!

I am from California. I had 1-2 weeks notice for my interview, so I flew out on a Wednesday, Interviewed Thursday, and flew home Friday. It's stressful, but if you're serious about the job, it's worth it!!

esf08001, I know you mentioned that you had some time at a rehab facility. Were you presently working there when you applied? Since the position is targeted toward new grads, do you think they prefer someone with no experience?

I think you're referring to a different person. I have no RN experience, I graduate in May.

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I'm not sure if you were talking about me. I had a little over 7 months in a rehab facility. I did a shadow interview, which I am told is pretty much an indicator they want you. It certainly helps having the experience.

Thanks for the information and sorry for the confusion! I'm glad to hear that they consider new grads with some experience! This program sounds amazing.

It is! I absolutely love it. I have a partner and the two of us have a preceptor and two patients each for 6 months. We will rotate through our "sister" floor the last month. I have already learned SOO much in 3 weeks. We start EPIC training soon,

What is the difference in the SNIPES program and GEMS program? I graduate in May and applied for 2 GEMS positions this past week, but I didn't see anything about a SNIPES program

I sent an application in yesterday as well. I pray that I get an opportunity to interview. This would really make a perfect career start.

Specializes in Nursing Education, CVICU, Float Pool.

I am still up in the air about applying. I applied to UNC's New Grad program.
