Charlotte nursing outlook

Hello,

I live in Indiana want to move to Charlotte once I get my ASN/ADN. I was wondering how is the job market for new grads out there? Does Charlotte hospitals want you to already have your BSN or do they give you time to get it? Are there an abundance of RN to BSN bridge programs available? Sorry so many questions.

I live in Charlotte and I have my ADN. It took me a good 3 months of applying before I was able to get a job at a hospital. The 2 main hospitals here, CMC and Novant say that they prefer BSN's so I feel that was my downfall. The hospital that I finally got a job at is not affiliated with either of these hospitals. I am not sure about all the RN-BSN bridges in the area but I just got accepted into UNCC's program for the spring. I would definitely recommend you having been accepted into a RN-BSN program so you can put that on your application once you start applying. Good luck!!

You're welcome! There are a lot of hospitals but they are all affiliated with one another. Carolina medical center and Novant are the 2 major players here in Charlotte. Whenever you start applying, you will go to those 2 websites and you can see all the locations around the Charlotte area that they have available. You will be hard pressed to find another hospital that isn't apart of CMC or Novant within a 45 mile radius. There is another hospital in Rock Hill, SC called Piedmont Regional Medical Center and that is about 20 miles south of Charlotte that isn't apart of the 2 I have mentioned.

Doesnt sound like there is a lot of variety... Is there any places in NC with a plethora of nursing jobs? Sorry so many questions. Just making sure I am making the right decision. Thanks again!

North Carolina didn't have any kind of nursing shortage even back when there was a nursing shortage. There are so many schools in the Charlotte area cranking out new grads each year; it's hard enough for local grads to find jobs, I would imagine it is even more challenging for those coming from somewhere else.

Your best bet is to look in rural areas. They seem to be better at hiring new grads and nurses with ADN's more so than big city hospitals.

I moved to Charlotte from S. Florida and have been looking for a job since the end of September when I received my NC license. I have probably applied to over 20+ jobs and haven't received a single call for an interview! I feel like my resume is probably just floating in some human resource cloud somewhere not being sent to the intended department posting the job. I am an experienced nurse and have NEVER had any difficulty finding a job until now. I am now questioning our decision to move here...
