Charlotte CNA options

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Here's the skinny. I work 3rd full-time as a RPSGT in Charlotte. I will be done with all my prerequisites after this semester, except for certification as an NA. I need a CNA before I can even apply to UNCC's program or many of the two year programs here. I also already have a BS in Biology and don't wnat to go the UNCC "pathways" route if I can help it. Do to my sleepy schedule, a CNA class seems a bit impossible for me. This may sound bad, but I don't plan on using the CNA for work during school. Is there an avenue I can take to get my CNA where a CNA class is not needed? That is, can I study for the exam and just take it for the certification?

Thanks in advance for any info here

Hi, and welcome to the forum :balloons: Unfortunately, you will have to attend both classroom and clinicals in order to receive NAI and NAII certification in NC:

NAI requires a 75-hour course:

[email protected] (specific questions concerning approved curricula)

The Nurse Aide II Training Program shall consist of classroom, laboratory, and clinical components. The student must successfully complete all components in order to be eligible to apply for listing on the North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide II Registry.

Actually, VickyRn is wrong. You can recieve your certification with or withour formal training. If you can study on your own and practice your clinical skills, there is a place in Greensboro, that will allow you to take your test. The website is http://www.cnatest.com. Also, you can order your book you need study from them. They have video/dvd purchase or rental, to show you the clinical skills. And also they have a all day clinic that is supervised by a RN, that will go over the skills with you and make sure you are doing them correctly. It is a charge for that class. The CNA competency exam has been approved by the NC Nurse Aide Registry and you will be listed on the registry once you pass the exam. If you really want to be a nurse, it is always ways around things. I needed a CNA certification for school and I also had no extra time for class. I studied on my own, took the test and passed. Forsyth Community College accepted it. Some states require you to take the CNA class before you take the certification, but NC is not one of them. Check out the website and even call, so they can answer any questions you might have. Also, you can find out by asking the nursing department at UNCC, they will tell you. And I bet you, that Charlotte has a place where you can do the same thing. We have 2 places here in Greensboro, so I would think Charlotte has one. Just do your research. Good Luck and everything will work out in your favor. Keep God First. :)

Thanks for the information :)

Thanks J's Mom. I knew there had to be something like that. I just couldn't find anything, even with my supreme Googling skills.

I'll have time to look into it Tuesday and will report what I find here in Charlotte.

The advisors in UNCC had nothing for me BTW. I guess due to me being me, the questions I ask them are so far and away from what they expect, they always look at me like I've got an eggplant growing out of my left ear.

As promissed:

Two different locales for CNA certification in Charlotte minus an actual class.

1) Carolinas Nurse Aide Evaluation Center

11164 Downs Road

Pineville, NC 28134

(704) 399-0551

http://www.ncnurseaide.com

These guys charge $160. That's $80 for written/oral and $80 for demonstration. Each retest is the same amount.

2) Caregivers Institute Inc.

1208 The Plaza

Charlotte, NC 28205

(704) 373-0954

No webpage, but I'll call and see about prices and retests

Wonderful information. I, for one, have learned something new. Thanks so much for sharing these resources :)

can you practice as a cna in more than one state at the same time. I took off work in the state of florida as a cna to come to washington dc to take care of my mother for a couple of weeks although i will not be living here i would like to know can i work in this state during my visit with my mother for short periods of time. Also can i apply for reciprocity for two different states or be certified in two different states at the samr time.

Wow. That's a first. Vicky is usually a wealth of information. Maybe she just hadn't had her first cup... :chuckle

Good Luck,

I would just be sure to ask HOW they register you with NCBON-

I really think things have changed since 2005 when this thread started-lol! I just finished 1st sem ADN @CPCC and we had to have a sign off by our our dept chair to state we 'skipped 'the actual CNA class- you actually have to go thru Pearson Vue to take the test and have it scheduled- they will not allow you to sched it- you are assigned a date, you mail in $92 MOrder and they assign you a date between one of the 2 places you choose. When you test, it is didactic/clinical skills and written...just make sure those short cuts come back to bite ya ;)
